BELFAST EDUCATION AND LIBRARY BOARD

The Belfast Education and Library Board under the provisions of the Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Orders, is responsible for providing an education and library service, including a youth service, in the Belfast area. The provision of public library services transferred to Libraries NI on 1 April 2009. The area has a population of approximately 268,000. The number of pupils in attendance at school in the board’s area is approximately 57,000.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must hold a teaching qualification as approved by the Department of Education (NI).

Please note where teaching experience is required only experience gained post qualification will be considered.

Essential:

Applicants must at the closing date be primary or early years trained and have a minimum of 6 months experience teaching in a foundation stage class.

Preferential:

Preference may be given to those applicants who at the closing date:

(i)  have experience in co-ordinating an area of the curriculum; and/or

(ii)  have qualifications and/or experience in piano accompaniment;* and/or

(iii)  have qualifications, training and/or experience to assist with the extra curricular activities, which at the time of appointment best meets the needs of the school.

The panel reserves the right to enhance these criteria.

*Shortlisted candidates may be required to demonstrate their proficiency on the piano.

On taking up this post the successful applicant must be a registered teacher with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland.

Posts involving work in educational institutions are subject to the provisions of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007. The successful applicant will require an enhanced disclosure check which at present costs £30. Further details regarding the payment of this check will be issued with the contract of employment.

SCHOOL INFORMATION

Rosetta is a warm, caring school at the heart of the local community that is committed to ensuring that each child reaches his/her full potential. It has a long tradition of academic excellence, with a recent Education and Training Inspectorate report praising the high quality of the teaching, the behaviour of the children, the pride they take in their work and commenting that, “The teachers care deeply for the children and their welfare”.

The historic building is well equipped with computers in each classroom, a large assembly hall, a library, art room, nursery unit and extensive grounds comprising a large grass area which is used for games and sports; and three separate play areas.

Rosetta is an inter-denominational school welcoming all children and where every child is valued. Over the years Rosetta has been enriched by being the first choice of many parents who have come to Northern Ireland from across the globe.

Rosetta has a strong musical tradition offering a wide range of instruments, with tuition from the School of Music, school orchestra, choir, a brass band and regular concerts.

There is a wide choice of activities including drama, gymnastics, netball, swimming, cycling proficiency, rounders and football. All classes take part in school visits and trips locally and further afield, including residential trips in P6 and P7.

Parents play an active role in the school and are kept well informed and involved in their children’s learning through regular meetings, parent interviews, written reports and newsletters. The Parent Teacher Association organises regular social and fundraising events and contributes greatly to the life of the school.
