The Summers County Board of Education has an opening for one full-time Bus Monitor/Special Education Aide/ Educational Sign Language Interpreterbeginning the remainder of the 2014-15school term and is now accepting applications for this position.

POSITIONS: Full-Time Educational Interpreter/Bus Monitor/Special Education Aide atHinton Area Elementary School.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School graduate or GED.

Physically fit to perform duties.

Pass competency test pursuant to 18A-4-8c

Criminal Background Check conducted pursuant to Summers County Board of Education Policy IV-G-4

Drug Test conducted pursuant to Summers County Board of Education Policy IV-H-1

Successfully complete and be certified in Phase I training in health care procedures and any Phase II procedures he/she is required to perform

Paraprofessional Certificate for Educational Sign Language Interpreter I or II (See WV State Board Policy 5202)

Applicant must be registered with the WV Commission for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing

Bus Monitor

QUALIFICATIONS:1.High School graduate or GED

RESPONSIBLE TO:Bus Driver and Transportation Supervisor and/or other appropriate county supervisor

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Assist bus driver by doing the following;

a. Assist children on and off the bus

b. Keeping track of the student’s personalbelongings

c. Main order and safety on the bus

 Maintaining positive work habits

 Performing duties efficiently and productively

 Maintaining and/or upgrading skills

 Performing any and all other job related dutiesas assigned bythe bus driver, transportation director, and/or appropriate county supervisor

TERMSOF EMPLOYMENT: Salary will be state scale plus one and one-half time hourly rate for time which exceeds 40 hours per week, 200 days per year, unless altered by contract by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:Transportation Supervisor or appropriate County Supervisor.

RESPONSIBLE TO:Supervising teacher, building principal

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Aides have the following duties:

a. Assist the teacher in instructional activities as directed

b. Shares in the responsibility of protecting students, equipment, materials and facilities

c. Performs limited rotating supervisory dutiesnot related to instruction

Maintain positive work habits

Performs duties efficiently and productively

Maintains and/or upgrades skills

Performs specialized health care procedures, pursuant to 18-5-22 (Specialized health care procedures include but are not limited to: catheterization, suctioning of tracheotomy, NASO-gastric tube feedings or gastrostomy tube feeding)

Must successfully complete and be certified in Phase I training in health care procedures or demonstrate competency in Phase I procedures. In addition, any aide who is required to perform specialized health care procedures must successfully complete and be certified in Phase II training in each specialized health care procedure to be performed.

Performs any and all other job related duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, building principal, or appropriate county supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary will be state scale and employment term will be 200 days, unless altered by contract by the Board of Education

EVALUATION:Performance will be evaluated by building principal and or Transportation Supervisor

Sign Support Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:1.High School graduate or GED

3. Pass competency test pursuant to 18A-4-8c

5. Drug test conducted pursuant to Summers County Board of Education Policy IV-H-1

6. Successfully complete and be certified in Phase I training in health care procedures and any Phase II procedures that are required to be performed.

7. Paraprofessional Certificate for Educational Sign Language Interpreter (See WV State Board Policy 5020)

RESPONSIBLE TO:Classroom teacher, principal, other appropriate county supervisor

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work under the direction and supervision of the teacher to whom assigned.
  2. Interpret for students utilizing the students preferred mode of communications.
  3. Provide interpreting during the school day in academic and non-academic settings with staff, peers and other students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  4. Confer with educators to plan for interpreting.
  5. Demonstrate and understand the educational process of interpreting by attending county-provided interpreter training during staff development.
  6. To assist students who are deaf or hard of hearing and perform other related duties which benefit the students.
  7. Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with individuals unfamiliar with the educational setting.
  8. Interpret auditory and signed information which includes environmental sounds, teacher instruction, student questions and peer communication as described in Code of Ethics for Educational Interpreters.
  9. Attend student’s IEP Team meeting in order to provide information about the student’s communication abilities and need.
  10. Perform any and all other job related duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, principal, and/or other appropriate county supervisor.
