Housing Counselor

Full-time

Provide information and counseling services to homeowners facing foreclosure and who reside within the designated service area. The primary responsibilities for this job will be:

·  Evaluate client situations by reviewing applications and other documentation and conducting in-person client meetings

·  Develop and assist implementing client action plans to achieve stable housing situations

·  Advise clients about mortgage foreclosure statutory timelines, procedures and general processes related to their financing and current status with lenders

·  Track client’s progress against action plans. Prioritize client service based on pending critical foreclosure process milestones. Maintain regular contact with clients throughout the service period

·  Attend Review Committee meetings

·  Notify client of Review Committee decision. Work with client to review and continue with action plan based on Review Committee decision

·  Monitor, maintain and contribute to client and data-tracking systems

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience working with a social service organization or other related field dealing with the public required. A minimum 6 months serving clients of diverse races, cultures and economic backgrounds in a human service setting is also required. Knowledge of real estate, mortgages, foreclosure and household budgeting is preferred. Minnesota Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Association (MMFPA) specialist certification is required or must be acquired within 12 months of employment. Excellent oral and written interpersonal communication skills to effectively and diplomatically work with a variety of people and personalities. Proven ability to work with people in high-stress situations is critical. Other important skills include multi-tasking, ability to meet deadlines, organized, detail-oriented, customer focused and intellectually flexible. Proficient at process-management and negotiation skills is extremely helpful. Candidates should possess strong analytical, critical thinking and math skills. Candidates must be proficient with MS Office Suite, including Access. Experience with Counselormax preferred.
