PURPOSE: Assist in the safe fabrication and commissioning of the new distribution metering and communications equipment for Dairyland and the Dairyland Member Cooperatives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist in the safe fabrication, assembly, and installation of communication and metering equipment enclosures:
a. Assemble equipment into wall enclosure
b. Fabricate wiring harnesses to communications and metering equipment
c. Install wireless communications equipment with coax
d. Perform test analysis of communication and metering equipment
e. Follow installation diagrams and procedures
f. Follow testing procedures and document test results
g. Perform basic troubleshooting skills to determine general malfunctions
h. Assist in the installation of equipment enclosure and commissioning of equipment
i. Keep an organized, clean, safe, work fabrication area
j. Report on equipment inventory and status of equipment assembly
k. Offer assistance and recommendations to enhance assembly process
l. Work in a team environment with supervision
2. Perform other duties as assigned
NATURE AND EXTENT OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Personal Expense Account.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience: High school graduate plus an Associate degree or Vo-Tech diploma in a communications-related field. Military or communications-related experience instead of Vo-Tech education may be considered.
Skills: Understand basic principles of electronics and computer skills. Specialized training will be provided by the Telecommunications Staff or Technicians on an as-needed basis. Technician will be required to use small basic hand tools and electronic test equipment. All Dairyland safety practices will apply in the work environment. Ability to differentiate colors.
Licenses and Certifications: Must possess a valid driver’s license and operate Dairyland vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. Possession of FCC license needs to occur prior to moving to Telecomm Technician position.
Physical Demands: Lift and carry electronic test equipment (up to 55 lbs). Lift and carry equipment and enclosures (up to 75 lbs., can ask for assistance). Operate/manipulate motor generator, drill press, bench grinder, hand tools, solder stations, broom, shovel, ladder, and telephone. Sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching/stooping, squatting, crawling, twisting upper body, climbing stairs, climbing hand-over-hand, bending, reaching/stretching, arm/hand/finger strength and dexterity are required to install and troubleshoot equipment.
Ability to differentiate colors. Must be willing and able to climb communication towers as needed.
Environmental Demands: Must be able to work around substation equipment. May need to access remote areas on uneven terrain while carrying equipment. Works indoors and outdoors, occasionally works in extreme temperature swings, extreme noise, mechanical, electrical, radiation, fume/odor, dust, and chemical hazards.
Other Job Characteristics: Travel within the Dairyland service area will be required with occasional overnight stays. Work days may require overtime and work schedules may vary to accommodate the Dairyland work crews. Tasks will range from routine to varied. Promote good will in dealing with Dairyland and Member Cooperative employees.
