Assignment Summary: You are a member of a high-adventure travel agency. Your agency has been receiving many requests from its clients to visit active volcano sites, preferably ones that are likely to erupt at any moment! Your job isto make a prototype of an advertising brochure. You choose the destination and create an eye-catching, informative three-fold brochure highlighting what the area has to offer the adventure traveler.

Purpose: Your purpose is both persuasive and informative. Your job is to attractthe reader to the location.

Writer’s Role: You are a member of the advertising team for an adventure travelagency.

Audience: You will be writing for scientifically-minded adventurous people whoare potential clients of the travel agency

Form: Your brochure should be neat and laid out in three-fold format usingboth the front and the back of each page. The back of the brochure should have a bibliography. The brochure should be colorful and visually appealing and include photos and graphics. You must include the following information in your brochure either in a narrative format or using bullet points:

Content: All information presented is accurate, complete, and current. (40 points)

a. Name of the volcano

b. Its location (country, latitude and longitude)

c. Volcano type (shield, cinder, composite, dome)

d. Type of magma produced

e. Eruption violence (high, moderate, low)

f. Eruption products (lava, ash, cinders, gas)

g. Associated structures (caldera, vent, crater, etc.)

h. Its current life stage (active, dormant or extinct)

i. Its history (last eruptions, damage done, lives lost, etc.)

j. Any unusual history or facts about it:

Mechanics: Brochure is edited for spelling, punctuation, and grammar.(5 points)

You will lose 1 point for each error.

Form: Brochure is neat and follows the format (includingbibliography) described above. (10 points)

Procedure:

1. The class will possibly visit the computer labor library to begin research on the volcano of your choice. YOU MUST GET APPROVAL FROM ME PRIOR TOSTARTING RESEARCH.

2. Continue researching your volcano in the library or at home.

3. Develop your brochure.

4. Read it out loud. Then have someone proofread it for you.

5. Make any corrections that are necessary.

6. Review the brochure-rubric to make sure you have everything needed.
