Take George Washington Bridge and carefully follow signs to the New Jersey Turnpike. Take the turnpike south to its end and cross the DelawareMemorialBridge. Stay right and look for the exit to US-13 South. Once on US 13 South go 2.7 miles to the hotel on the right.

FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2009

Quality Inn Skyways toThousand Acre Marsh

Go south on US-13 and stay in the left lanes to continue on US-13 South. US-13 becomes Highway 1. Travel 7.1 miles (from hotel) and take Exit 152, toward DelawareCity/ St Georges. Turn Left onto S Dupont Hwy/ Wrangle Hill Rd/US-13/DE-72. The road will turn into Route 9 South and you will pass through DelawareCity and then over the very tall and long ReedyPointBridge. At the end of the bridge make a sharp right onto Dutch Neck Road.

Thousand Acre Marsh to Bridge Way Family Restaurant

Travel back the way you came to Highway 1. Take Highway 1 South (Portions toll) 18.8 miles to Exit 119A – US-13 S, toward Route-6/Smyrna/Route-300. Travel US-13 South for 2.5 miles and turn Right onto Route 300/Route 6/E Glenwood Ave. The Bridge Way Family Restaurant will be on the left.

Bridge Way Family Restaurant to Bombay Hook

We will buy lunch, probably from the Subway a little north on US-13. Then we will take US-13 South alittle over 1 mile and turn left onto Smyrna Leipsic Road. Take this 4.9 miles to Route 9 and make the first left onto Whitehall Neck Road 3 miles into the refuge.

Quality Inn Skyways to Bombay Hook for Late Risers

Go south on US-13 and stay in the left lanes to continue on US-13 South. US-13 becomes Highway 1. Take Highway 1 south (Portions toll) ~ 22 miles toExit 119A – US-13 S, toward Route-6/Smyrna/Route-300. Travel US-13 South for 3.7 miles and turn left onto Smyrna Leipsic Road. You may want to stop at Subway for sandwiches on US-13 in Smyrna before you get to this turn. Take Smyrna Leipsic Road 4.9 miles to Route 9 and make the first left onto Whitehall Neck Road 3 miles into the refuge.

Bombay Hook to Little Creek NWR

Travel back out 3 miles on Whitehall Neck Road to Route 9. Turn Left and take Route 9 South 8.2 miles to Port Mahon Road.CAUTION: Route 9 passes through the towns of Leipsic and Little Creek where the Speed Limit drops quickly from 55 to 25 mph. Crawl through these towns to avoid a ticket.We will bird along Port Mahon Road.

Little Creek NWR to Blue Heron Inn

Travel back out on Port Mahon Road to Route 9. Remember its 25 mph speed limit again!

Turn Left onto Route 9 south and go 4.6 miles to US-113. Turn Left onto US-113 South/ DE-1. Follow US-113 South86.7 miles into Maryland to US-13.

Turn Left onto US-13 South. Follow US-13 South (Crossing into Virginia) 8.6 miles to a traffic light and turn left onto Route 175, Chincoteague Road. Follow Route 175 for 10.5 miles onto the Island of Chincoteague. ( We will stop and bird at the pull off overlooking the marsh )

Turn left onto Main Street. Go 0.4 miles (8 blocks) and turn right onto Maddox Blvd.

Take Maddox Blvd (Beach Road) 1.1 miles, thru traffic circle and the Inn will be on your right.

Chincoteague to Milburn Landing

Take Maddox Blvd 1.1 miles to Main Street and turn left. Turn right at light to leave the Island. Take Route 175, 10.5 miles out to US-13. Turn right onto US-13 North and go 10.6 miles to Route 364 (just after crossing over the PocomokeRiver. At the traffic light turn right onto Route 364 and go 5.8 miles to the park entrance.

Milburn Landing to “My Sisters Place” - Lunch

Take the park road back out to Route 364 and turn right. Go 5.7 miles on Route 364 to Route 12. Turn right onto Route 12 and go 1.2 miles to Market Street (Business 113 / 394 and turn left. Go 1 mile north to 5610 Market St, Snow Hill, MD

Lunch to Shad Landing

Take Business 113 south or north back out to Route 113 South. Take Route 113 south and look for the entrance to ShadLandingState Park.

To get back to Chincoteague, go south on Route 113 to Route 13 south, to Route 175.

SUNDAY, May 3, 2009

If you are heading home simply head north on Route 13 through Maryland and Virginia, then follow signs for the Delaware Memorial Bridge to the New Jersey Turnpike. (Do not necessarily follow signs for Interstate 95 which might lead you to Philadelphia.) Look for signs that say the Delaware Memorial Bridge!

Chincoteague to Days Inn

Take Maddox Blvd 1.1 miles to Main Street and turn left. Turn right at light to leave the Island. Take Route 175, 10.5 miles out to US-13. Turn right onto US-13 North and go 42 miles to Route 50 West. Take Route 50 West 29.9 miles to the Days Inn, Cambridge on the left.

MONDAY, May 4, 2009

Days Inn to Blackwater NWR

Turn Left Route -50 West and go 0.6 miles to Church Creek Road, Route 16 and turn Left. Follow Route 16 for 7.3 miles andturn Left onto Route 335/ Church Creek-Golden Hill Road

Take Route 335 for 3.9 miles and turn left onto Key Wallace Drive. Visitor’s center will be on the right in ~ ¾ mile. The wildlife drive is further down Key Wallace Drive, also on the right.

The end of the wildlife drive comes out to Route 335. Turn right to get back to Key Wallace Drive or head home.

Blackwater NWR to Home

Take Route 335 north about 4 miles and turn slight right onto Route-16/ Church Creek Road. Follow Route 16 for 7.3 miles to US-50. Turn left onto US-50 West. Go ~30 miles to MD-213 North/ Centerville Rd. Go north ~ 6 miles to US-301 North. Take US-301 N (Crossing into Delaware), 53.9 miles. US-301 N becomes DE-896 North. Continue another 2.7 miles and merge onto I-95 North toward Wilmington.

Important! Once on I-95 do not necessarily follow signs for Interstate 95 which might lead you to Philadelphia.) Look for signs that say the Delaware Memorial Bridge

Go 8.4 miles on I-95 and merge onto I-295 N toward NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE/ DEL MEM BR/ NJ-NY (Crossing into New Jersey). Take the turnpike to the GW Bridge.
