André Philippe du Plessis has a first class honors degree in Chemical Engineering from Melbourne University (Victoria, Australia) and joined ABS Consulting in early 2003 to take up the position of Manager Risk Consulting. His position now is Head of Risk Consulting for ABS Consulting in the Asia Pacific region. He has over 39 years experience with the oil & gas, and chemical sectors, and also in the hazardous waste sector, covering work across Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Canada, USA, and all across Asia. The last five years before joining ABS were spent heading up a company in Australia specializing in the destruction of hazardous chemical waste (including chemical agents such a Sarin, VX, Mustard). He has excellent working knowledge of the technical, operational, and business considerations involved with managing safety and environment within highly sensitive industries in the on-shore and off-shore sector (fixed and floating).
André is in high demand across the industry and is an internationally recognized expert in the area of HAZOP/HAZID and has facilitated around 200 risk assessments (HAZOP, HAZID, HEMP, LOPA/SIL) for on-shore and off-shore facilities around the world in the last 12 years across a wide range of industries, but mainly in the oil and gas and petrochemical sectors. In addition, whilst with ABS Consulting, he has projected managed, or been directly involved with, 13 Safety Cases for on-shore and off-shore facilities (LNG Plant, FPSOs, FSO, FSRU, jack-up and semi-sub drilling rigs, and a drill ship), has undertaken incident investigation/root cause analyses, has prepared and delivered training materials on Risk Assessment, HSE Cases, Hazard & Effects Management Process (HEMP), Process Safety Management (PSM) and other related topics.
André is a full member of the UK Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), a Chartered Engineer, and has served on their Victorian State committee (Australia) in various positions over the years. He is also a serving Rotarian, and is a past president (three times) of the Rotary Club of Bukit Timah in Singapore, where he is currently based.
