NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to all of our Crown Point family. Although we have started a new calendar year, our school academic calendar continues with the second quarter. The second quarter will end on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Afterwards, students should bring their second quarter report cards home on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Please review your child’s report card carefully and contact his or her teachers with any questions.

As we continue to celebrate our school’s 20th Anniversary, a post Valentine Day Dance will be held for students only on Friday, February 21, 2014 in our multipurpose room for Pre-K – 2 from 3:30 – 5:30 PM and Grades 3 – 5 from 5:30 – 7:00 PM. The cost is $5.00 per student and includes a beverage and snack for each child. You will receive additional information shortly in your child’s communication folders. Parents are asked to volunteer to chaperone this event and you may contact our PTA president Susan Godfrey at .

Administration and staff are continuing to use the Common Core as our primary standard based format for educating our students. The Common Core is the new standard for North Carolina and more rigorous than our previous standard course of study. Students are expected to use more critical thinking and problem solving in their learning. Speak to your children daily and ask what they are learning in school. Please do not ever accept a response of “nothing”, but contact your child’s teacher about classroom instruction.

Preparing and Inspiring Lifelong Learners,

Mr. Mark S. Anderson, Principal
