Job Description: Temwa is in need of someone to help organise Temwa’s broad range of fundraising events. The successful candidate will need to be honest, confident, have a passion for international development, and in particular they should be interested in the development of Malawi. The UK Events & Fundraising Assistant will assist the UK Director, Events Coordinator and Fundraising Coordinator with day to day operations which include; organising and promoting fundraising events, managing volunteers and assisting with marketing and PR. The position is for a part time internship, two days per week. The role involves assisting at events which means working hours can vary and include some evenings and weekends. The position is unpaid, although expenses will be covered.
Key Duties:
1) Organising fundraising events and activities:
• Supporting or forming idea's for fundraising activities
• Liaising with venues, artists, designers, printers
• Collating press info
• Promotion and marketing
• Managing ticket sales & working at events
2) Managing volunteers:
• Communication with volunteers
3) Marketing & PR:
• Maintaining website event content
• Assisting with online networking sites (Facebook, Myspace, Twitter etc.)
• Producing press releases
• Seeking media publicity
Experience, qualifications and requirements:
• Experience of working or volunteering with NGOs or charities essential.
• IT and word processing skills essential.
• Experience of organising fundraising events desirable.
• Excellent written and communication skills essential.
Temwa was registered as a UK charity in December 2003 and currently employs 30 full time members of staff in Malawi, with a full time UK Director and Fundraising Manager and part time Events Coordinator, who are supported by a team of part time interns and volunteers. We believe the roll will provide an interesting and rewarding opportunity in a small, dynamic and not always conventional organisation.
