Coca-Cola Scholars Program
Amount / 50 National Scholars: $20,000 each - 200 Regional Scholars: $10,000 each

Requirements / Complete online application. Approximately 2,200 applicants will be selected as Semifinalists and notified by mail and email around December 1. Semifinalists must then complete a secondary application, including essays, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. Semifinalist applications are due by mid-January. Our Program Review Committee will select 250 finalists to advance to the final interview phase. Notifications are sent mid-February. In April, the 250 Finalists are invited to Atlanta for personal interviews. The Finalists are interviewed by a National Selection Committee representing outstanding leaders in business, government, education and the arts.
Eligibility / Current high school Seniors; US Citizens, Nationals or Permanent Residents; planning to pursue a degree at an accredited US post-secondary institution; carrying a minimum 3.0 GPA from the end of their junior year.

Ron Brown Scholar Program

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Good Citizens Scholarship

Requirements / Complete student cover sheet (general information) + personal information outline listing high school, community and extracurricular activities; high school transcript; two letters of recommendation; a 550 word essay also needs to be completed in the presence of a faculty member within a 2-hour time limit. The essay topic will not be revealed until the day it is administered. There are 3 essay date options: Thursdays, November 1, 8, or 15 at 7:15 a.m. Please report to Mrs. Fasold’s office (Rm. 4405) on the selected date.

“Freedom in Academia” Student Essay Contest

Eligibility / Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution (kindergarten through graduate school) in the United States. Must have demonstrated on-going commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States within the last 12 months. Must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Volunteer services performed by applicant must help non-family members.

Requirements / Complete online application. Must write a maxiumum 250 word essay telling us about your high school journey and how making breakfast with milk part of your routine (or daily routine) has helped you succeed.
Eligibility / High school Seniors of Hispanic heritage with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with plans to enroll full-time in a degree-seeking program at a 4 or 2 year accredited U.S. institution. Must be eligible to receive a Pell grant and must apply for federal financial aid by completing the FAFSA.

Holocaust Museum Houston Yom HaShoah Scholarship

Requirements / Must be nominated by a KHS teacher or counselor. We recommend that you fill out a Senior Info Sheet and speak to your nominator well before the 12/19/2012 deadline as they will need to fill out a nomination form and a 1-2 page letter of nomination by that deadline. Students who have been nominated must also submit a 750-1,000 word essay that explores the destruction of Jewish life in Europe as a result of the Holocaust and the need for Holocaust memorials today.
Eligibility / Graduating seniors who will attend a two or four year college in the Fall of 2013 and who have demonstrated leadership in stopping hatred, prejudice and apathy in their school or local community.

Requirements / Application and all supporting material must be submitted online. Nomination by eligible community leader, such as a high school principal, elected official or executive director of a nonprofit organization. Application, transcript, extracurricular and volunteer activities, work experience, short statement of your educational and career objectives, essay, financial information from your parents’ most recently submitted tax return. Names, titles, telephone numbers and email addresses of your high school principal, guidance counselor and one other person at your school, in your community or at your workplace who can speak to your qualifications.
Eligibility / Graduating high school seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study towards a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2013-2014 academic year. Must demonstrate at school, workplace and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship. Minimum GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale or equivalent. United States citizen and demonstrate financial need.
