Position Title: Lorain County LGBTQ Community Coordinator

Funding: 1 year grant funded position

Reports to: Operations Manager

Salary Range: 17.00/ hour

Type: Part-time, not eligible for benefits, non-exempt

The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland

Founded in 1975, The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center of Greater Cleveland is a leading non-profit organization that empowers Northeast Ohio’s LGBTQ community through advocacy, education, collaboration and celebration. The heart of the region’s LGBTQ community, The Center is a one-stop hub that provides opportunities and resources for all who it serves.

The Center’s facility is a welcoming and visible space that brings the community together for resources, support, connections and programming. The Center serves as the public face and advocate for the LGBTQ community. Through leadership within the community, cultural competency training outside the community, media representation and collaborations, the organization aims to improve the quality of life in Northeast Ohio.


In addition, The Center has the important role of social connector, hosting year-round gatherings, public events and cultural programs that unite, honor and celebrate the LGBTQ community.

The Lorain County LGBTQ+ and Allies Taskforce

Taskforce Mission: "To make Lorain County a safe and inclusive place for LGBTQ+ community members to work, play, and live."
Taskforce Vision: “As a nonprofit corporation, the Task Force collaborates with community partners to facilitate access to local and regional services and engages the community at large to support Lorain County’s LGBTQ+ community.”

The Lorain County LGBTQ+ and Allies Task Force is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Its work is accomplished by volunteer leaders and representatives of churches, social service agencies, and LGBT-serving organizations in the county and Northeast Ohio region.

Position

The Lorain County LGBTQ Coordinator is responsible for assisting Lorain County’s LGBTQ community members by connecting them with local and regional resources, educating all community members on the circumstances and needs of the LGBTQ community, and working jointly with the LGBTQ and Allies Task Force of Lorain County on community initiatives that align with the mission and goals of the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland.

Essential Job Functions

Mobile Drop-in Centers

·  The Lorain County LGBTQ Coordinator is responsible for traveling to and maintaining 3 drop-in centers located in Lorain, Elyria, and Wellington

·  Provide the drop-in centers with educational literature and resource materials from various local service providers

·  Assist with walk-in community members to refer them to local and regional counseling services, peer support groups, social and recreational opportunities, open and affirming religious institutions, and LGBTQ-friendly businesses.

·  Facilitate peer support groups as needed

Community Liaison

·  Attend community meetings of various social services coalitions and collaboratives to provide the LGBTQ community perspective as identified by the Task Force

·  Act as a support to the Lorain County LGBTQ+ and Allies Taskforce

·  Recruit LGBTQ-friendly businesses, nonprofits, and other community entities to grow the local and regional LGBTQ community resource list

Center and Task Force Liaison

·  Attend Task Force meetings to report on what needs are being identified throughout the county and news from the Drop-in Centers

·  Attend weekly staff meetings of the LGBT Center in Cleveland, OH

·  Communicate the circumstances and needs of Lorain County’s LGBTQ community to The Center and The Task Force and report on drop-in center activity

Skills and Qualifications

Required

·  At least two years of experience in successful community outreach/recruitment and volunteer coordination

·  Excellent public speaking and presentation skills

·  Ability to connect with others and forge strong relationships

·  Committed to the mission of serving Lorain County’s LGBTQ community

·  Highly organized, analytical, computer skills– proficient in Microsoft Office programs and volunteer tracking databases

·  Ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and organizational skills.

·  Ability to maintain confidential information

·  Ability to organize and maintain detailed records; complete necessary paperwork in timely manner

·  Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.

·  Must be able to work under stress of meeting deadlines and changing priorities

·  Able to operate normal business machines and technology, such as computer and computer systems, office copiers, fax, remote access, phones

·  Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

·  Must have a valid driver’s license with fewer than 5 points on driving record and reliable transportation to travel to the drop-in centers and community events as well as community meetings

Preferred

·  Bilingual in Spanish a plus, but not required

·  Ability to support, network and motivate staff, volunteers and clientele

·  This position requires some flexibility in scheduling and may include daytime and evening hours.
