“Eight Day Workshop On Chemistry”
Eight day long capacity building Workshop organized by Deptt. of Chemistry, Islamia College of science and Commerce Srinagar, was today on 24th February 2015 inaugurated at Conference Hall of Islamia College of Science Commerce Srinagar. The programme for the science teachers of valley based Colleges, is sponsored by University Grants Commission, New Delhi under the scheme ‘International Year of Chemistry’ and CPE status conferred to the College.The organizing secretary of the programme Prof.S.Mairaj Mohammad Akram highlighted the importance of the theme of the workshop “Chemistry: Transforming Our Daily Life”. Prof.(Dr.). Mohammad Aslam Baba, Principal, in his welcome address to the dignitaries and the participants of the programme highlighted the achievements of the College and future plans after being declared as Autonomous Institution.His welcome adress highlighted the importance of Chemistry subject as central science and its role in transforming the socio-economic status of modern global society.He emphasized on the need to motivate the students towards applied science education.
Prof.(Dr.)Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Dean College Development Council,University of Kashmir, who was the chief guest on the occasion formally declared the workshop open and highlighted the importance of Chemistry in our daily life from drugs to food, from chemotherapy to fluorescent bulbs and what not .Prof.(Dr.).Mushtaque A.Siddiqi, Ex.HOD Immunology and Molecular Medicine and Ex.Director Advanced Centre of Genetic Diseases (SKIMS,Srinagar) was the key note speaker on the workshop and deliberated how important is it to develop scientific temper among the student community to ensure the building of scientific society.
Dr.Abid Hussain Banday (Deptt. of chemistry),anchored the event and informed the audience about the achievements of the Chemistry Department in the field of academics, research and other activities.
Dr.Nighat Nazir (Deptt. of chemistry) presented the vote of thanks to dignitaries and participants.
