A Samaritan village refused to give hospitality to Jesus and his disciples because Jesus was going on towards Jerusalem (Luke 9:51 56). James and John wanted to call down fire from heaven upon them. And of 10 lepers healed, the only one who returned to give thanks was a Samaritan, as was the only one who helped the injured man in the parable set on the Jericho Road.
The apostle declares that “Jacob’s well was there” (4:6). The site of Jacob’s well has been called “the most authentic of all the Holy Places in Palestine”

Vs 8-9Jews have no dealing with Samaritans. Tax collectors, Samaritans, Samaritan Woman. What a profound and sad statement.
Jewish prayer of the time was: “May I never set eyes on a Samaritan”
Prov. 31? Many a Jewish man started the day with a prayer to God, expressing thanks that he was neither a Gentile, a slave, or a woman!
God’s chosen people have no dealings with Samaritans. Salvation for me, Judgement for them. Sad.
He was friendly even towards an unlikely woman. Jesus broke through social prejudice. 1 cor. 6:9-11

Vs10

Vs11-12 Proud of their well. When they were not allowed to worship in Jerusalem they worshipped on Mt. Gerazim beside Jacobs well.
Vs13-15She came at the 6th hour. 12:00. Very hot time of the day. Guilt. Shame. Desire for love.
Vs 16-20 Jesus knew all about her? How? Response: Change the subject.
Samaritans believed there was no prophet after Moses, except the messiah
Vs 21-24 Ever feel like God is a million miles away. Prayers bounce off ceiling.
Truth? Pilate: What is truth. Lincoln once asked how many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg.
Vs 25-26 This is one of the few times when Jesus clearly told who He is.
And to who?The least in society’s eyes.
Vs27-29Some sinckered: Must have taken a while...
Hows that for an invitation. Come see a person who told me how bad I have been. This is our Savior.
Evangelism today.
Sprinkle with salt, pour it out when the time is right.
Show them that you care for them. But also share the gospel in conversations. My mother.
Vs. 30-32 Did he ever get a drink? What refreshed him?
Isn’t that amazing. Jesus is refreshed when a sinner repents. How about us repenting daily. Does it give God joy? yes
John the apostle at the end of his life said, “I have no greater joy than that my children walk in truth.
Vs33-34

Vs 39 She is the sower. Here is her testimony repeated. God says it twice.
He showed me my sin... He showed me it doesn’t have to be like this...
Sin is not fun, it is dispair, painful, shameful. It claims to be a party and always disappoints leaving us wanting more.
It leaves us empty... but doing God’s will satisfies. Go hungry or be filled.
Vs 40-42
Savior of the World: The big idea of these verses. Jesus is the King of the Jews, The jews Messiah - for salvation is from the Jews but He is also and most importantly to the Samaritans and to us “The Savior of the World”
One of the greatest evangelists for Jesus in the New Testament was on the lowest social scale you can get.
He spoke to her seven times. She to him six times, it was the sixth hour and she had six men.
Her seventh comment was to the townspeople telling of Jesus.
She brought many of a town to Jesus, perhaps hundreds...
She had no property, no husband, no pride, no money, no fear

What is our excuse? What do we have that we didn’t get from God. Who are we? Reputation, money, status, a family,
We are nothing... 1 Corinthians 4:7 For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did notreceive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not? ...
We look down our noses at people who struggle and gossip about them before we will love them and care for them.
John 4:43 How many miracles did he do?

“if God would just do this, then I would believe Him? No you wouldn’t.
All you need is to hear the truth and for God to move on your heart.
After the death of Stephen, the Jerusalem church was scattered abroad. In this connection, Philip the evangelist went to Samaria and proclaimed Christ (Acts 8:5). The multitude “gave heed with one accord” to his message, which was, incidentally, buttressed with supernatural signs.
