Volunteer Wildlife Centre Warden

How many volunteers are needed?
3
How many hours per day/per week are you needed?
Minimum of 10 minutes per week (you can choose to just open and lock up the exhibition room if you wish)
On which days are you needed?
Ideally every Sunday in the morning. But if you are not available every Sunday then we will aim to recruit sufficient volunteers to provide a rota.
On what date do we want you to start?
As soon as possible.
End Date (if applicable)
There is no fixed end date.
Minimum commitment we require from you(eg 1 day per week for 6 months). If any.
6 months commitment from you would be ideal.
Objective(s) of your volunteer role
To open up the centre to allow visitors the opportunity to visit the interpretation and to safely lock up the centre at night.
Tasks
The Falls of Clyde is one of Scottish Wildlife Trusts flagship reserves.
To allow better enjoyment of the reserve and to increase people’s awareness of wildlife, a visitor centre is situated near the reserve with a small normally unmanned exhibition with wildlife webcams and interpretation.
Main duties will be
  • Open or close the small exhibition (switch on lights and put out a small board) the centre should be open between the hours of 10am-4pm but there is flexibility outwith these times if you wish to open earlier for instance.
  • Other duties if you wish :provide ‘live’ interpretation to visitors within the exhibition area. Welcoming visitors and members and pointing out walks, webcams, interactive games, crafts where appropriate.

Trustworthy and reliable
There may be the opportunity to develop the position if you wish into a mentoring role for future new staff and volunteers and to help with visual inspections of the centre in the absence of staff.

The recruitment process will be ongoing and we will stop recruitment once we have enough volunteers.
When will interviews be held?
We will contact applicants and arrange to meet with the Visitor Experience Manager
Can SWT provide expenses e.g. for travel or branded clothing?
Unfortunately we cannot provide expenses. A branded fleece will be provided.
Will you want references for volunteers before appointing or PVG disclosure?
References will be required
