DSL Modem DNS Changes

VisionNet M405 and M505:

Log on to modem. Typically the address is 10.0.0.2 when local to the modem. The username and password is “admin”/”0123456789”:

On the modem web interface, click on the “Advanced Setup” tab, then on the “DNS” selection:

Check Automatic Assigned DNS”, click on the “Save” button.

Click on the “Management Utilities” tab on the left, select the “Save/Reboot” listing, and then click on the “Save/Reboot” button.

VisionNet M505N:

Log on the modem (as above for the M405/M505).

Check the M505N firmware for support of DNS through authentication. Select DNS from the menu on the left, if there is a third listing for “DNS Server”, this is the later firmware model, and the routine can be continued below:

Earlier M505N firmware:

Select “WAN” from the menu on the left, then “WAN Services”. Add a checkmark to the “Remove” box of the displayed chart, and then click on the “Remove” button:

Click on the “Add” button, then the “Next” button for the next two screens. The customer username and password should still be within the needed fields, but a checkmark will need to be re-added to the “Enable NAT” and “Enable Firewall” selections. If PPPoE, there will be a selection for “Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and LocalPorts” that should also be checked. Click on the “Next” button at the bottom of this and the next page. On the DNS page, enable “Select DNS Server Interface from available WAN interfaces”, then make sure the “ppp0” entry is in the left-hand box:

Click on the “Next” button, then on the “Apply/Save” button. Select “Management” from the menu on the left, then select “Warm Reboot”. Click on the “Reboot” button.
Later M505N firmware:

Select “DNS Server” below the “DNS” menu item.Select the option “DSelect DNS Server Interface from available WAN Interfaces”.

Select “ppp0” in the “Available WAN Interfaces” box on the right, and click on the arrow button pointing left. It should now appear as the image above. Click on the “Apply/Save” button at the bottom of the window:

Click on the “Management” listing in the menu on the left, and select “Warm Reboot”, then click on the “Reboot” button.

BEC 5200W:

Log on to modem. Typically the address is 192.168.1.254 when local to the modem. The username and password are “admin” / “admin”.

On the modem web interface, click on the “Interface Setup” tab, then on the “LAN” tab.

Change the “DNS Relay” to “Use Auto Discovered DNS Server Only”, then click on the “SAVE” button.

Power-cycle the modem by selecting the “Maintenance” tab, then the “SysRestart” tab.

Leave “Current Settings” selected, and click on the “RESTART” button:
