PTA Minutes – March 1, 2018

Treasurer Report - $25,471.87 currently. Approved by Dena Manz and seconded by Laura Tempesta.
Correspondence Report –
-Outlook Newsletter coming out next week. Also, PTA received a nice thank you from Mrs. Spinweber and her students thanking us for the donation of Legos and UNO cards to be played during recess during the winter months.
Board of Education Representative – Sue Salny–
-There are 4 candidates up for the new superintendent position. On 3/14 there will be an open forum at 7:00 pm for the public to come and meet the candidates and ask questions. Each candidate will have 30 minutes to speak and answer questions. They are hoping to decide on 4/11 the new superintendent.
-The next Board of Education meeting will be held on 3/7.
-The final budget is in the works and hopefully will be approved soon.
-On 3/21 the next BOE newsletter will be coming out. Be sure to check it out to keep updated on current events
-The assembly Stop The Bleed, will be hosted on 3/20 at Copeland Middle School at 7pm. This is to outline how to deal with a tragedy when it occurs. This a 1 ½ hours and is a free event but registration is urged. Email to register.
Principal Report – Steve Wisniewski –
-Read Across American is this week/Dr. Seuss week. The children have embraced reading and have had fun with each special day.
-PAARC testing will be April 16-24 this year
-NJASK Science will have testing for 5th grade students
-On 3/2 students will be having an assembly on Emergency Management Control. This is for K-5 and is specific for elementary students.
-There is a new training program that we will be implementing. It is called ALICE. It means Alert Lockdown Inform Counter Evacuate – a letter will be coming home to all parents outlining it all in detail.
Committee Reports-
-Courtyard Habitat – Looking to make soup sometime this month and be supplied to a local soup kitchen
-Cultural Arts – all assemblies so far this year have been positive and the kids have enjoyed them
-Spring Family Movie Night will be held on June 6th – this is a first for Stony Brook
-Plant Fair will be held on 5/11, just in time for Mother’s Day
-Spirit Wear – Our spring sale will start next week and run for about 7 days. New items for spring to come. Capris and leggings for girls, active wear shorts and tees for boys, tanks for girls and pj bottoms
-Talent Show will be in 5/17 this year. Practices are on Mondays only – deadline to get forms in is 3/9.
-Spring Book Fair – BOGO will be 4/10-4/12
-Box Tops – ongoing contest and ends on 3/22 – the class that wins, will student will receive a Five Below gift card.
-Gertrude Hawk – Another successful fundraiser. Raised over $9000.00 Thanks to all that ordered. Delivery will be the week of 3/12
-Shoparoo – 1st grade won the last contest and will choose their reward. The next contest starts this month and goes through May. Good Luck to all
-Krispy Kreme – NEW fundraiser coming on 5/24. Be on the lookout for more information to come.
New Business – There will be a sale coming up to benefit our PBSIS. There will be spirit sticks for sale in the cafeteria during lunch - $6 for a bundle and includes a keyring. This will be replacing our penny wars that we have done in the past.
