India, Netherlands sign MOUs on Measles-Rubella vaccine development
The support of Translational Vaccinology (INTRAVACC) a government-based institute of the Netherlands will enable Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Corporation (BIBCOL), a Central PSU under the Department of Biotechnology, to develop Measles-Rubella vaccine Under ‘Make in India' initiative of the Indian government. Scientists build, test bioartificial organs

A team of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) investigators has made the first steps towards development of bioartificial replacement limbs suitable for transplantation. In their report, published in the journal Biomaterials, the scientists describe using an experimental approach previously used to build bioartificial organs to engineer rat forelimbs with functioning vascular and muscle tissue. Reprogramming of DNA observed in human germ cells for first time

A team of researchers from University of Cambridge has described for the first time in humans how the epigenome, the suite of molecules attached to our DNA that switch our genes on and off is comprehensively erased in early primordial germ cells prior to the generation of egg and sperm. The study shows some regions of our DNA -- including those associated with conditions such as obesity and schizophrenia -- resist complete reprogramming.Read more…

World's first digitally-encoded synthetic polymers

Researchers have for the first time succeeded in recording a binary code on a synthetic polymer. Inspired by the capacity of DNA to retain an enormous amount of genetic information, a team from the Institut Charles Sadron de Strasbourg (CNRS) and the Institut de chimie radicalaire (CNRS/Aix Marseille Université) synthesized and read a multi-bit message on an artificial polymer.Read more…

Trial of saline-resistant GM paddy crops likely

The field trials for growing saline-resistant paddy crop is likely to be conducted in the coastal region of Tamil Nadu once the Union government gives its nod for field testing of the transgenic crop. No new EU law to end animal testing

It was only the third European Citizens' Initiative, an initiative established in 2011 that allows European citizens and organisations to invite the European Commission to propose legislation. Sun Pharma to distribute AstraZeneca’s cardio-drug in India

Drug-maker Sun Pharmaceutical Industries will promote and distribute AstraZeneca Pharma India’s cardiology drug Axcer in India. Axcer is an additional brand of Astra drug ticagrelor that is used in treating acute coronary syndrome (ACS). AstraZeneca already has a brand under the trademark Brilinta for the ticagrelor molecule, launched and marketed by it in India since 2012. Read more…
