Gilian Gilibrator 2 – Air Flow Calibration System
WARNINGS!
- DO NOT pressurize the cell. Pressurizing the cell could cause bodily injury or damage to the cell.
- Use only approved soap solutions. Non-approved soap solutions may lead to fouling of the cell.
- DO NOT use gases that may be corrosive the cell, any component of the cell, or may react with the soap solution.
- DO use clean, filtered air when testing to prevent aerosolized oil droplets from contaminating the cell and soap solution.
Setup
Assembly
- Place wet cell on the control unit.
- Grip the cell by the base and rotate ¼ turn to lock the cell to the control unit.
- Attach the data cable from the back of the control unit. The 9-to-15 pin converter box may be necessary.
Filling
- Remove the storage tube from the air outlet barb such that it is only connected to the air inlet barb.
- Depress the bubble initiator button.
- Using the fill bottle, fill the bubble solution until the liquid level in the cell reaches the top of the straight lip of the bubble generator ring.
Tubing Connections
- The top barb on the cell is the air outlet and the storage tube can be left on.
- The bottom barb on the cell is the air inlet and should be connected to the outlet of the device or air stream being sampled.
Operation
Start-Up
- Turn on the air source.
- Depress the bubble initiator several times to “prime” the cell.
- The cell is primed when bubbles no longer pop before reaching the top of the cell.
- Turn the control unit to “on” and allow the system to run self-tests.
Taking Measurements
- Depress the bubble initiator.
- If no bubble is formed, release the bubble initiator to form a bubble.
- If a bubble is formed, allow the bubble to complete before releasing the bubble initiator and forming another bubble.
- The flow rate is determined by the time it takes a bubble to pass two censors in the cell.
- The flow rate is displayed along with the average flow rate and the sample size.
- Press “delete” for 1 second to delete the last reading.
- Press “delete” for 3 seconds to clear the current batch and start over.
Shut-Down
- Turn the unit off by pressing the “off” button.
- Turn off the air source.
- Disconnect the tubing from the air inlet.
- Reconnect the storage tube between the air inlet and outlet barbs.
Storage
- Disconnect the data connection cable.
- Holding the cell at the base, rotate the cell ¼ turn to unlock the cell from the control unit.
- Remove the cell from the control unit.
- Disconnect the storage tube from the air outlet barb so that it is only attached to the inlet barb.
- Tilt the cell assembly, barbs down, so that the soap solution drains from the air inlet barb.
- Reconnect the air inlet and outlet barbs with the storage tube.
Notes
- The control unit’s battery should be charged for a full 14 hours if the unit is going to be operated without the wall adapter.
