Job Posting – Director of Fundraising

CLOSING DATE: 22nd August 2012

ORGANISATION: Right To Play UK National Office

WORK LOCATION: London

BACKGROUND

Right To Play is a global organisation that uses the transformative power of play to educate and empower children facing adversity. It was founded in 2000 by Johann Olav Koss, a four-time Olympic gold medalist and social entrepreneur.Through playing sports and games, we help children build essential life skills and better futures, while driving social change in their communities. For over ten years, Right To Play has been bringing smiles to the faces of millions of children living in disadvantaged areas of the world. We build specially designed Sport for Development programs based on the needs of each community. Our programs embody the best values of sport and combine other non-sport components to enhance learning. These programs empower participants and communities and promote sustainability. Our growth, though a testament to the excellence and quality of our programs, also reflects the great need for the work we do. While we have accomplished a great deal so far, we know that sustainable social development is a never-ending endeavor. To this end we have ambitious growth plans and are looking for stellar professionals to join our winning team.

Right To Play trains local community leaders to deliver our programs in more than 20 countries affected by war, poverty, and disease in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Right To Play promotes the involvement of all children and youth. We believe that the power of play can transform a child’s life. That’s why we are working in the most disadvantaged areas engaging girls, persons with disabilities, children affected by HIV/AIDS, street children, former child combatants and refugees.

The UN recognises play as the right of every child. Play is not a luxury; it is a tool for education and health. It can bring entire communities together and inspire every individual. A game of football can teach children about tolerance and peace, a game of tag can teach about malaria. Play helps teach important life lessons and develop skills like co-operation, leadership and teamwork. Play provides a retreat from everyday hardships and brings joy and laughter, allowing kids to be kids.

Our work is facilitated by approximately 590 staff worldwide staff worldwide and 12,000 volunteer coaches. With an annual operating budget of $30M,Right To Play is headquartered in Toronto, Canada and has National Offices in the United States, Canada, The Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
