Introduction

Congratulations on choosing the EYE-FLEX Low Vision Display Unit provided by Guerilla Technologies Inc. We are certain that EYE-FLEX will provide you with the flexibility, mobility and independence to perform limitless activities whether you are at the office, home, school or just on the go. Activities that might include the ability to read the mail, read prescription labels, sign checks, work on crossword puzzles, read newspapers, search telephone directories, and the list goes on and on. You can also apply make-up, crafts that require close viewing like knitting, sewing and even examine stamps and/or coins. You will also gain the ability to simplistically take photo’s near or far of friends/family/presentations, etc, store them in EYE-FLEX and view them again at your leisure. Shipping Contents

Prior to shipping, your EYE-FLEX unit has been factored tested and configured for optimal use. You should have received two (2) separate cartons; one containing the EYE-FLEX unit and the other the monitor (assuming a monitor was ordered with EYE-FLEX). Items contained within the EYE-FLEX packaging will include the following:

-  EYE-FLEX base unit with camera

-  EYE-FLEX remote control (batteries are installed 2 AAA)

-  White cardboard box that contains the electrical transformer

-  Power-cord

-  VGA connector

-  Place-mat

-  Bean-bag cushion

-  Carry case

-  Set-up Instructions, Basic Operating Instructions and FAQ’s

-  Monitor (if ordered with EYE-FLEX)

Quick Set-up Instructions

-  Remove bubble-wrap from “gooseneck” of camera

-  Remove from white cardboard box the electrical transformer

-  Connect the power cord together with the transformer (3-prong end from power cord connects to the transformer)

-  Plug the remaining end of the transformer into the base of the EYE-FLEX unit (facing the unit right side DC-Input)

-  Connect VGA cord into the back of EYE-FLEX unit (there will be 2 VGA plug slots use the one that isn’t covered with the plastic cap. Don’t remove the plastic cap as this will be utilized for future features).

-  If a monitor was ordered, assemble the stand (directions are included in the enclosed Monitor Manual).

-  Connect the VGA plug from the EYE-FLEX unit to the VGA slot located in back of the monitor.

-  Connect the power cord included with the monitor to the back of the monitor.

At this point you should have a power cord from the EYE-FLEX unit and a power cord for the monitor that need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. Proceed to plugging them both in which will automatically turn on the EYE-FLEX unit (blue lights on base unit will be turned on). Allow approximately 30-seconds after powering the EYE-FLEX unit to power-on the monitor (monitor, 19” monitor power button slide finger slightly to the right of the bump dot located at the right base, 24” monitor power by sliding finger slightly to the right of the GTI label positioned at the bottom right of the monitor).

Basic Operating Instructions

-  Position the place-mat provided on a flat-even surface with the EYE-FLEX logo facing directly in front of you.

-  Place the EYE-FLEX base unit on either the right/left side of place mat (positioning should be behind upper vertical line).

-  Properly position the camera to be directly facing forward (switch on camera will be facing directly towards you and yellow “Caution” sticker will be to the left when camera is positioned correctly).

-  Please make certain that the above mentioned switch is positioned to the furthest left setting.

-  Power the EYE-FLEX unit on by pressing the button located on the base of the unit, top row, furthermost left

-  The blue-light appearing next to the “Source” (Yellow) button should be lit on the “camera” position. (If not, please press the Source button until the “camera” light comes on).

-  Position base of camera approximately 10” above item to be viewed

-  Press the yellow AUTOFOCUS button on the remote.

-  To magnify the object being viewed more simply press the + (green) button on the remote until desired viewing is achieved.

Reading/Viewing Magnified Objects

There is no need to “hand-move” a document/image for viewing. The EYE-FLEX remote provides you the ability to “pan” across a document (view left-to-right, right-to-left, upward and or downward, simply press the white arrows on the remote in the desired direction.

Increased Magnification

The capability exists to increase the increase the level of magnification by simply lowering the height of the camera. This level may be desired for viewing items like stamps, coins, jewelry, etc. It is recommended not to bring the camera to less than 4” from the document/item to be viewed.

“Real-Time” viewing

To perform functions like signing checks, working on a crossword puzzle, etc, the EYE-FLEX unit is preset to operate in the “rapid refresh rate mode”. Simply place the camera at a height of approximately 4”-6” from the subject being viewed, press the AUTOFOCUS on the remote. For maximum viewing/refresh rate the magnification level should not exceed 200% (displayed on right corner of monitor).

Profiles (Viewing Modes)

Your EYE-FLEX unit comes preset from the manufacturer with 3 Profiles settings. These profiles are the following:

Profile 1 set to “Negative” setting (darker contrast)

Profile 2 set to “Bright” setting (brighter contrast)

Profile 3 set to “Natural” setting (medium contrast level)

To view and select you’re most favored profile simply press the “MODE” button (blue) on the remote.

Viewing Effect Preference

Your EYE-FLEX unit comes with three (3) factory pre-set viewing effect. These views are the following:

-  Black on White

-  Negative

-  Color

To select the most desired viewing effect simply view a document on the monitor and press the white “EFFECT” button on the remote control until the desired view is presented.

Capture/Save/Display

To capture a picture/document press the CAP/DEL(Green Button bottom right corner of EYE-FLEX base). Seconds after capture the monitor will display SAVING (bottom right-corner).

To display the captured picture/document at the EYE-FLEX base press the Source (Yellow button on the on the top right) until the blue light is lit for “PLAYBACK”. All images that are being stored will be presented in a thumbnail view with the last picture/document captured framed in red. Simply use the wheel on the EYE-FLEX base to scroll to the desired picture (again, red-framing will appear) and once finding the desired image press the button(Orange) located in the center of the wheel which in turn will provide a full screen view of the selected image.

Delete an Image

To DELETE an image follow the above and simply press the CAP/DEL button (Green) to remove the image permanently from storage and press the Menu button.

Capture an image from a distance

The capability exists to view/capture an image from a distance of up to approximately 25-feet away. Simply perform the following:

-  Facing the EYE-FLEX camera (this assumes that the image is facing in-front of you) bend the camera from the base downward approximately 90-degrees with the camera facing the image to be captured and simply press the CAP/DEL (Green) button on the base unit. To view the image follow the same procedures as outlined above.

Travelling with EYE-FLEX

You can take EYE-FLEX on the road with you or simply move from room to room. To transport EYE-FLEX move the camera by the base forward and bend the camera base to the right. On the EYE-FLEX unit (right side) you will be able to place the camera into the cut-out designed for it to reside.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The purpose of this section is to assist you with answers for anticipated that you might receive while using EYE-FLEX.

“Do I need an X-Y table?”

Answer – A definitive NO! The magnify and “pan” capability is resident on the remote therefore there isn’t the necessity for the X-Y table. The document being viewed need not be moved!

“The picture appears dim on my monitor can I adjust the image brightness or contrast?”
Answer – Yes! While the unit is shipped directly from the manufacturer with default settings pre-set for brightness/contrast the capability to individually customize these settings exists. An adjustment can be easily made from the viewing monitor/TV.

“Can I plug the EYE-FLEX into any monitor, PC or TV?”

Answer- YES.

“Can I take pics from a distance?”

Answer – Absolutely, the flexible gooseneck stand allows for the camera to capture pics from a distance. Pictures can be taken/captured/saved upwards of 25’.

“If I magnify a subject and take a photo will it appear in the saved pictures at the magnified level?”

Answer-No the picture that is captured will not will not be magnified HOWEVER, there is the capability to magnify the stored image. In addition, the flexible gooseneck stand allows for the camera to be adjusted capturing a close-up image of the item being captured.

“Can I use EYE-FLEX for signing checks, writing, doing crossword puzzles?”

Answer – YES. There is a setting that will accelerate the capture rate to 30 frames per-second. (this setting comes loaded as one of the factory default profiles).
