How can I get extra credit???

Here are the main ways:

Math

  1. Do the opposite problems.

If Mrs. Hughes assigns the odd-numbered problems for a math assignment, do the evens for extra credit. If she assigns the even-numbered problems, do the odds for the extra credit. CORRECT extra problems will usually score ½ point each.

  1. Do any of the challenge problems in the textbook as they arise throughout the curriculum.

Throughout the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math books, there are challenge questions that arise. As we are learning the material, students are welcome to attempt these challenge questions on their own. They must be completed and turned in to the teacher within two days of the introduction of the material in order to receive extra credit. Students will be given some extra credit for attempting the challenge, and will get even more if they get it correct. The amount of extra credit is at the discretion of the teacher.

Science

  1. Complete a challenge opportunity in the textbook as a part of the curriculum.

As with the math texts, there are also experiments and challenges in the science texts as well. Students are welcome to complete such challenges within two days of the introduction of the material in order to receive extra credit. The amount of extra credit is at the discretion of the teacher.

  1. Write a one to two page research paper on a topic having to do with the area of science you are studying.

Students are always welcome to write a small research paper on a topic they are interested in within the area of science they are currently studying (physical science for 8th, life science for 7th, earth science for 6th). They must include a bibliography that lists the sources they used for their research. The amount of extra credit is at the discretion of the teacher.

PLEASE NOTE: Remember to not leave extra credit to the end of a grading period to try to “lift” your grade; none of the teachers will accept such submissions. Extra credit needs to be submitted throughout the trimester in order to affect your grade. Any extra credit that is submitted less than two weeks before the end of the grading period will not be accepted.

Thank you!!!!
