Velocity 2: The Art of Motion, Car Show Event July 8 - Noon to Four

The Packard Club has been invited to show cars at this event on July 8 -- thus the need for this special mailing so you can plan to join us. This is a particularly great event for older cars like this club and our friends in UMRCCC. This particular day is dedicated solely to the vintage machines like ours. A separate event will occuron July 28 that has a Hotrod/Motorcycle theme -- so this is a great opportunity to highlight our part of the hobby!
The Friends of Hopkins Center for the Arts, as you may be aware, hold an annual Arts Festival each July, and this event is a part of that as well as part of a special month-long, automobile-inspired art exhibition at the Center. The Hopkins Center for the Arts has invited artists from throughout the U.S. to show their work from June 30-August 3.
This is a terrific venue that should get a lot of traffic and with space for about 40 cars – personally, I'd like to see the vintage cars use all that. I'm asking you to please let me know if you can show a car by sending an email to or calling 612 961 5060. These folks would like to have the area full but have given us first shot at trying to show our cars. This event was last done in 2008 and will most likely be a recurring event. If you are interested, now is the time to demonstrate that we can help make the event a success. Let me hear from you if you can possibly make it. We are also invited to the June 30th opening reception, which I will describe below. This will be great fun. Evenif you can't show a car, try to attend the opening, and please come down and see your friends from the clubs on the 8th and enjoy the day!

9Hopkins Arts Festival in full swing

I've been in communication with the folks at the Art center in Hopkins, and they describe the event this way:

There will be a lot going on for people to enjoy. Our arts festival (typical thing - artist booths, food vendors, some corporate sponsor booths, music in the downtown park off of 9th) will go from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, so will be running during your car show. It is a small (boutique) arts festival but of good quality.

Our Center is between 11th and 12th on Main Street. Artist booths run from the east from 9th Avenue along Main Street to halfway up our block. Then there is a food court. Then we would leave a gap at the 12th Avenue intersection and start the cars. There is a possibility that Cadillac and Jaguar may want to each have a car or two at that intersection (potential sponsors) and then we would start the Packard club cars for the block between 12th and 13th. Historic Main Street also has antique stores and restaurants, including a Brazilian restaurant, Asian fusion restaurant and Japanese restaurant. All within walking distance. It would be great if you could stop over and check out the location. Stop in if you can.

We provide attendees with a map and directory of events so would include your show in that (let me know exactly how you would want to be listed). Based on our last Velocity event, the cars have no trouble attracting attention -- but we will also actively steer people your way. If you have a photo of your car or another from the club, that may be helpful as we go after press and other media coverage.

We can provide people showing their cars with bottled water and I can also do window plaquards if they are needed. Of course, I would need the information to do that ahead of time. Let me know if you think you need any more security than that provided by the car owners.
There is a church on Main Street so we cannot have cars arrive until their last service is out (around 10:30). But if we have people arrive just before noon (I'm thinking 11:00 would be best), it should not take too long to get everyone parked. People should arrive on Main Street from the west. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I am so excited that people are expressing interest!

The center area of Main and 11th will be blocked off for pedestrian street traffic during the event, therefore you will need to enter the show area from the west of 13th Avenue. Shady Oak Rd would be the nearest major street.
