Jenůfa – an intense story of love, jealousy and sacrifice – is by turns harrowing, heart-wrenching and starkly tragic. Leoš Janáček took 10 years to complete the opera before its premiere in 1904.It remains one of the most performed operas today.

ARTISTS:

Anthony Haddon|Actor

Anthony set up the Theatre Company Blah Blah Blah (the Blahs) in Leeds in 1985 with two other drama students from King Alfred’s College in Winchester. Creating touring shows for children and young people in schools and youth centres, the company became a leading exponent of participatory theatre. Supported by the Arts Council of England, the company collaborated with playwrights, dance companies, clown teachers, educationalists, sculptors, and other theatre companies from abroad and in the UK to explore stories in a participatory structure. Anthony left the Blahs in 2014 to pursue a freelance career working for the likes of Opera North, Alive and Kicking Theatre Company, and teaching at East 15 Acting School, and the University of Leeds.

Sylvia Hallett | Musician

Sylvia Hallett is a multi-instrumentalist and composer moving between violin, Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, saw, accordion, electronics and found objects. She currently plays with The London Improvisers Orchestra and h2dance company, where she is resident composer. Recent collaborators have included Lol Coxhill, Evan Parker, Jah Wobble, Anna Homler, LaXula, Opera North, Wonderful Beast, Miranda Tufnell, and The Royal Shakespeare Company. She performs internationally as a solo improviser, having released three solo albums, and pops up regularly on the soundtrack of TV’s Silent Witness. In July 2015 she was commissioned by the Livio Felluga Wine Company to create and perform a solo site-specific work ona hill in an Italian vineyard. Photo by Luigi Vitale.
