Ray Quesnel, Head of School
Keith Blades, Head of Lower School
--also in attendance were parents of both lower, middle and upper schools.
Treasure’s Report by Tiffany Myers: Funds in FAPA acct: $7,794We have to decide how we want to spend the money. Could be a carnival, a motivational parent speaker that we open up to non-FA parents as well, etc.
Projected expenses include:
- $500 for graduation reception
- $500 for teacher appreciation
- up to $500 for field day
- $278 plus tax for the spirit rock
- $500 for next year's new family orientation
Ways we bring in money to the account
- Spirit wear sales
New ways we discussed bringing in money to account:
- Penny Wars
- Spirit Rock
- FA business directory for parents to advertise their companies since FA parents are more likely to shop local and support our greater FA community.
Update from Meredith Wiles: This year’s FAPA meetings will run a little different. For example, instead of hearing an update from Mr. Quesnel, Mr. Blades and Mrs. Satisky, they will send a brief email the Friday before the FAPA meeting to all the parents. They will still attend the meetings, but will excuse themselves later in the meeting so parents might be more inclined to speak more freely. On occasion, there will be times when Mr. Quesnel, Mr. Blades and Mrs. Satisky will speak at the FAPA meeting if there are some announcements to be addressed. We are looking for a President Elect for this year’s FAPA. Please contact Meredith Wiles if interested. If you have any ideas for the money FA raised during our recent Grand Garage Sale please share. Come to a FAPA meeting and tell us your ideas or email Meredith Wiles. The leftover items from the Grand Garage Sale have been donated to a rescue mission in Dunn and Restore Warehouse Habitat for Humanity also picked up a load. Signups for Spirit Rock have started. The link to sign up for a specific day is on the FA website under FA Parents. Look for the link “Sign Up for the FA Spirit Rock”. The cost is $15 and you can pay that with the PayPal link after you sign up for a specific day. More information is under the link on the website.
Head of School Report, Ray Quesnel: Bill Jordan, Head of our IT department has left Fayetteville Academy for another job in RTP. He will be missed tremendously. Enrollment is at its highest since 2011 with 385 currently enrolled. Ideas are being discussed about restructuring the front drive for morning drop off and afternoon pick up. There is a possibility of restructuring LS pick up. Just a reminder to please obey parking rules with handicapped parking spaces, no parking zones and the auction winner space. Please park in the parking lot behind the playground and not next to the side fence. There are safety issues with cars going both ways and people walking their children in to the school. Be on the lookout for an email regarding these parking issues.
Head of MS/US Report, Virginia Satisky: No update from MS/US.
Head of LS Report, Keith Blades: The Science Olympiad competition for 2017 is during the week of our spring break at Fayetteville Academy. Coaches will need to practice with their teams during the week of spring break. We need coaches to work with the teams. Please email Keith Blades if you are interested in volunteering as a coach. The shed/sandbox cover will soon be completed. The funds for the shed/sandbox cover were raised from the Boosterthon fundraiser. We are waiting on the floor in the shed to be installed then we can move the tricycles into the shed.
Fine Arts Booster Committee, Kris Armstrong: Mark your calendars for the spring music production, Friday, April 21. This is also Grandparents/Special Friends Day at Fayetteville Academy. More details to come.
Movie Nights Committee, Jessica Rose: Movie night for the spring is in the planning stages. Our regular booking guy is not available this fall. If anyone has connections with a company that could play the movie on a large projector please let Jessica Rose know. Sponsors are needed.
Big Friends/Little Friends Committee, Jordan Capps: BF/LF is in its first year at FA. We are starting small and hopefully it will grow to something bigger at FA. This year we are starting with the 1st and 7th graders. We will see how this year goes and possibly add more grades next year.
Spirit Wear/Box Tops, Melissa Stockdale: Melissa is asking for help with this committee. She needs help to get it started for this school year with new visions and new goals. Melanie Keefe is willing to help and suggested online ordering of Spirit Wear. Tim Ingram is new person to contact regarding PE uniforms.
Auction 2017, Christy Combs: The 2017 FA auction will be held on Friday, March 3. Volunteers are needed. Please contact Christy Combs is you can dedicate any amount of time to help make this year’s auction a success.
Teacher Appreciation, Mary Jon Barkman: Mary Jon is already planning the Christmas breakfast for teachers/staff. Please let Mary Jon know if you can help with the planning stages. Last year’s “teacher wish list” binders were a great success. The binders will be updated with new teachers and their “favorites”. Please stop by the Admin office to look through the binders.
Next FAPA meeting will be held in the cafeteria on Tuesday, October 4th @ 815.
-Bonnie Lutynski, Secretary FAPA 2016-2017.
