Role: Lecturer in Engineering – CAD/CAM Specialism

Salary: c. £23.3k - £35.3k per annum, pro rata where applicable. Harmonised scale points 23-37.

Accountable to: Faculty Area Manager – Engineering

Accountable for:

To teach on Engineering courses and support the wider achievement of our learners programme of study. To assist in the development, organisation and delivery of the Engineering curriculum area, with main focus level 3 and above, covering new technologies including Solidworks, AutoCAD and HSM Works within our programmes, whilst also supporting the wider Engineering Team. Assessment and verification of work undertaken within the classroom and workplace will be also critical to this role.

Portfolio of Responsibilities:

1. General college responsibilities:

  1. To contribute towards the delivery of a high quality educational experience for all students, delivering services in a way that is sensitive and responsive and which displays the highest standards of customer care.
  2. To observe all college policies / procedures / working practices / regulations and in particular to comply with the College’s Equality and Diversity Policy, Health and Safety Policy, Financial Regulations, Safeguarding Policy and the Code of Conduct.
  3. To undertake appropriate training and staff development.
  4. To effectively manage and develop any staff reporting through to the post holder.

2. Main duties and responsibilities:

1.To plan, prepare and deliver teaching sessions as required.

2.To be responsible for assessing, recording and reporting on student development and progress, including attendance at open/parents evenings as appropriate.

3.To undertake tutorial/pastoral and student support related duties.

4.To develop teaching and learning materials relevant to teaching duties and course team student groups.

5.To undertake initial guidance and advice interviews with potential students and contribute to the enrolment process.

6.To complete registration documentation and monitor student attendance and achievement taking appropriate action as required.

7.To contribute to and participate in quality assurance initiatives as appropriate.

8.To participate in classroom observation activities.

9.To review and evaluate lessons/courses within area of responsibility, with a view to continuous improvement.

10.To contribute to the course and team planning review processes / action plan and attend regular team meetings.

11.To liaise with parents/carers/employers (where appropriate).

12.To be responsible for a group of students and their induction programme.

13.To produce an assessment calendar and track students’ progress.

14.To undertake other academic activity related to the role.

15.To maintain records (teaching and student related) as required.

16.To undertake course co-ordination, this specifically includes:

  • Leading your course team and addressing issues relating to the course for example recruitment, success rates, student attendance, course developments
  • Leading on the quality of course delivery including co-ordinating course reviews and supporting the production of the self-assessment report
  • Maintaining the course file and ensuring the internal verification is carried out
  • Ensuring that students are registered, exam entries complete and that results are collated and reported

17. To complete Health and Safety risk assessments for off-site trips

  1. To work with employers and agencies to promote employer engagement on vocational courses, including ad-hoc work placements
  2. To work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation
  3. To comply with the Workforce Reforms relating to CPD and teaching qualifications
