Review Energy Optimization Panel

Let’s review each icon on the energy optimization panel in Revit. The order in which they are placed follow the basic workflowto generate an insight – meaning to perform an energy analysis on model. This basic workflow will be cover in the next video.

  1. Go on the Analyze tab.
  2. This icon is to set a location. Before performing energy optimization of the building model, you always need to specify its geographic location.

  1. This icon is to “create energy model.” The energy model is a special form of your Revit model’s geometry, which is used for the Insight Analysis. Refer to the Revit help topic on Energy Models for more information.

  1. The energy setting icon – it specifies the parameters used to create the energy analytical model. Revitoffers 3 analysis modes for creating the energy model from the architectural model. For all cases, however, you should use the default mode:“Use Conceptual Masses and Building Elements.” The other modes relate to legacy behavior and are provided only to support older models. Refer to the Revit help topic on Energy Settings for more information.

  1. This icon ‘Generate’: generates the Insight of the energy model.

  1. The Optimize button let you access the results of the simulation. Once your energy simulation is done, you can access the results either by clicking on this “Optimize” icon but also use the link provided by email or go directly to insight web platform.

  1. Finally, on the upper right corner, you can see the Insight Icons.

-Heating and cooling: displays heating and cooling load information into a summary report. We’ll cover this in another video.

-Lighting: Runs a lighting analysis in the cloud.

-Solar: to run a solar and PV analysis.

-We’ll cover these workflows in depth in later videos.
