Castlemaine Contemporary Art Space

Application form for monthly exhibitions February – November 2019

CASPA is a contemporary art space located in Central Castlemaine in Victoria.

CASPA supports emerging and established artists and promotes contemporary art in this region. As an artist run space, CASPA is a not for profit organization and is managed by volunteers. Exhibiting fees are to cover running costs.

  • Exhibiting dates and openings are set for each exhibition.
  • Openings occur at 6pm on the first Friday of each month.
  • Artists set up on the Wednesday before their opening and pack up on the Sunday directly after.

CASPA provides:

  • Gallery Space for one month duration 10 – 5 daily (note the walls are the only hanging space – doors to studios are not included)
  • Caspa Web site listing
  • Promotion via the Caspa email list
  • Glasses and platters for opening night
  • Picture hooks, hanging line and rail hook
  • Fridge, tap, coffee machine and ladder access
  • Advice and assistance
  • No commission on work sold

Artist to supply:

  • Weekend opening of CASPA is the responsibility of the artist/s.
  • Key provided (ask if you need help)
  • exhibiting fee $200 (and pay for any damage done to walls during exhibition and any breakages of glasses at $5 per glass) – price may change in 2019
  • Install /de-install exhibition on required dates:

-work to be fitted with D-rings for our hanging system

-extra plinths and displays (ask us if you need extra things)

-Putty/paint (provided) any holes at end of exhibition and clean any mess (includes washing walls if needed)

  • Labels and any other gallery documentation for the show
  • Any hardcopy promotional material you may wish to have
  • Refreshments for opening night (food/drink)
  • Manage sales and public correspondence (arranging time for art purchased to be collected)
  • Artist may sit exhibition if they wish
  • Opening speaker or floor talk by artist (at artists’ discretion). Any additional requirements for the opening night need to be approved by CASPA.

THE SPACE

CASPA provides an exhibition space above Stonemans Bookroom Corner of Mostyn and Hargraves St Castlemaine – enter via the alleyway. The space is 8.5m by 9.2m. Wall height is 4m. There are three central poles in the space. Tea-room and toilet facilities are available.

It is highly recommended that artists visit the spacebefore applying for an exhibition.

Additional Information:

Successful artists’ proposals and images may be used for promotion purposes and/or future funding applications.

  • Professional or emerging artists
  • Contemporary Art Practice

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Application form
  • Proposal outline (1/2 - 1 page exhibition summary)
  • One Page Curriculum Vitae for each of the artist/s involved
  • Support Material: 3 images labeled with name, title, medium & date. (Images may be in the form of photos/high quality digital prints/jpegs or on CD/DVD.)
