Title:Student Services Intern

SUMMARY

This work placement is an interesting opportunity to work within the Student Services Team in the running of a busy language school. With the main focus on front-desk support and customer service, this placement offers a variety of administrative and operational roles in a multi-national school working with people from all over the world. It is an exciting opportunity where every day has a different challenge.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

Answering the phone, directing calls, dealing with enquiries.

Assisting with planning and preparation for new students’ arrivals each Monday (preparation of welcome packs, study materials, student ID cards, bus passes, student level tests, and other literature depending on numbers and ages of students).

Welcoming clients and conducting orientations for new students on Monday mornings.

Occasionally helping the Academic Manager with conducting and marking student level tests.

Preparing student reports and certificates at the end of each week.

Inputting information onto the LCMS student management system.

Archiving student reports, files and certificates on a weekly basis.

Arranging tours for students: liaison with tour companies, taking bookings, keeping records.

Ensuring that notice boards have current relevant information attractively displayed.

Dealing with post in/out, purchasing stamps.

Assist the Student Services Manager with stock level control (coffee machine & water cooler supplies, bus passes, stationary, stamps).

Assisting with petty cash management.

Covering breaks of other members of Student Services Department.

Other administrative and operational duties

Assisting with organising and conducting events and activities for students.

Assisting with host family administration.

Supervising Young Learners at break time.

Providing Airport assistance for arriving / departing students.

Providing operational support to the Academic department when the Junior Vacation Programme runs from premises provided by the University of Brighton.

Other interdepartmental duties as may be allocated in line with the needs of the business.

Requirements

UK resident or EU citizen only

Fluent English both written and spoken

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Good computer skills with Excel, Word etc

Customer service oriented

Polite & friendly

Highly organised

Must have a flexible attitude and show willingness to undertake delegated tasks

Able to work in a team and on initiative

Energetic and hardworking

Must feel passionate about working in a multicultural educational environment

Attention to detail

Good sense of humour

Working Hours

38.75 hours per week, flexible shifts from Monday to Friday between 8:30 and 18:00. Hours may be reduced on quieter days.

Work Placement Duration

To be confirmed according to needs of department and availability of intern.

1 vacancy from March 2016 (applicants must be available for a minimum of two months)

3 vacancies from June to September (applicants must be available between 6 June 16 and 19 August 16)

Additional information

This work placement is unpaid.

BLC can help arrange homestay accommodation on B&B or half board basis at a reduced rate.

Travel pass included.

References will be provided at the end of the internship period.

This position entails working with children, therefore DSB disclosure may be required.
