Corporate/Business Travel

·  CPPIB (Canada Pension Plan Investment Board) recently joined the Preferred Hotels & Resorts Corporate Rate Chain Agreement. Headquartered in Toronto this company manages over C$287 billion in investment assets for the Canada Pension Plan on behalf of eighteen million Canadians. CPPIB has office locations in New York, London, Hong Kong, Sao Paolo, Mumbai and Luxemburg. For more information on this company please review their profile on the PreferredNet or contact Vanessa Gromer.

·  Cirque Du Soleil, the world’s largest theatrical company, based in Montreal is the newest managed account out of Canada. Cirque Du Soleil has a separate hotel program for crew and for VIP travelers (guests, managements, scouts etc). Beside their permanent shows in Las Vegas, they have a number of tour shows travelling to worldwide destinations (all destinations and dates can be found on the Cirque Du Soleil website). If you see this company in your vicinity please fill out the survey and contact Vanessa Gromer.

·  Hotel Programs/RFP Feedback: companies and agencies increase efforts to detect and reduce leakage (meaning direct bookings) within their travel program as these bookings are not accounted for in their agency reporting. Bookings not tracked by the agency also affect another area of concern, which is duty of care. Other hot topics are rate availability as well as increased minimum room nights for hotels in order to be considered for an rfp invitation.

·  AMEX GBT Canada reports that their Top Destinations data revealed that their Canadian travelers are travelling further than ever before. In fact, for the first time, Hong Kong made the list ranking as the fourth most popular international business travel destination.

·  Business travel out of Calgary/Alberta is still down. Agencies don’t predict a recovery before end 2017, beginning of 2018.

Leisure Travel

·  Travel to Europe is remains strong for agencies in the Vancouver area. Agents reported they didn’t see any cancellations due to recent incidents or concerns over security.

·  Leisure travel out of Canada to most US destinations is still seeing a slow down due to the weak Canadian Dollar (currently at 76 US cents).
