Dear Parents/Caregivers,
As part of the ongoing professional learning for staff, Lisa and Jade this week attended the final session of the Maths Strategies with Maths consultant Ann Baker. The day included professional reading and discussion, identifying the important developmental steps of linear measurement, observing a lesson on area and planning a unit of work using the National Curriculum and new Maths Strategies. Lisa and Jade will share their findings with all staff at the next staff meeting.
Raelene and Lyn are today attending a professional learning session with Literacy consultant Stephen Graham. This is the first of two sessions exploring teaching strategies to expand students’ work knowledge. Raelene and Lyn will also share their findings with all staff.
The research supports the importance of teacher professional learning on the learning outcomes for students and it is great to see teachers come back from these workshops so enthusiastic about their own learning. These days also give them the opportunity to engage in professional dialogue with colleagues from other schools.

BOOK WEEK
The Theme of Book Week this year is “Champions Read”. To begin our celebrations of book week this year we have decided to share an afternoon of Literature and Art. This will involve sharing of featured Book Week books and Visual Arts activities. To conclude our Book Week celebration we will have an assembly to share our other Book Week activities. This assembly will be held on Thursday 16th August. Students will be welcome to dress up for the Assembly, as their favourite book character or a Champion Reader.
PROTECTIVE BEHAVIOURS
As part of the Health program all students are participating in the Child Protection Curriculum this term as mandated by the Department of Education and Child Development.
The first unit includes “The right to be Safe.”
We would encourage parents also to talk to your children about keeping safe e.g. stranger danger.
