The University of Ottawa Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Partnership is looking for a dedicated family physician/internist to provide locum coverage for full-time clinical services as a Most Responsible Physician (MRP) Hospitalist for TOHRC inpatient units. Dates are from September 10, 2018 until December 21, 2018. There will be an opportunity to meet and shadow with the current physician in this role. TOHRC is a 70 bed hospital that provides tertiary and quaternary specialized care and rehabilitation for patients with physical disabilities and provides inpatient, outpatient and outreach services for patients with amputations, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, strokes, chronic lung disease, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, musculoskeletal dysfunction, and communications disorders.

Work Expectations:

TOHRC requires the services of a full time clinical provider. The provider will ensure the general medical care of inpatients admitted to TOHRC for approximately 40 beds including but not limited to:

  • Admission histories/Admission Note - focus on medical aspects for care (estimated 8 per week)
  • Physical examinations
  • Ongoing general medical care;
  • Manage patients on a daily basis; e.g. Manage medical issues including Diabetes Management, hypertension, infections,
  • Discharge medication prescriptions and discharge summaries prepared day of discharge
  • Work closely with admitting Physiatrists and PM&R trainees on the unit
  • Consult Physiatrist on all patients admitted for Rehabilitation direction and care
  • Collaborate with Rehabilitation Team
  • Attend Family Conferences as needed
  • Day-time on-call availability to manage emergency medical situations
  • Be available to treat patients from 8AM to 5PM weekdays

Practice Setting:

  • Three In-patient rehabilitation units
  • Access to electronic medical record (OACIS, PACS) and iPad (personal device can be used)
  • IT support available on-site

Remuneration:

  • No overhead cost
  • All billed services retained by the provider
  • Physician may bill as the MRP physician for patient care
  • Visits remunerated on a fee-for-service model under OHIP

Reporting directly to the Physiatrist–in-Chief, the successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree
  • Appropriate Certificate in medical practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Registration in good standing with the CMPA
  • License in Ontario (or be eligible for licensure)
  • Bilingualism (French/English) would be an asset.
