Mathematical Applications, 8th edition by Harshbarger and Reynolds

Course Description:

Exponential and logarithmic functions, Mathematics of finance, Differential calculus and applications, Integrals and applications in business and economics.

Chapters 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 will be covered. See the assignment sheet for detail.

Course Policy:

There are three in-class midterm exams. The lowest one will be dropped (66% of total grade)

There is one departmental final exam which is comprehensive. Final exam is 34% of total grade.

A 5in X 7in index card is allowed in any of these tests. You can write your formulas on both sides of the index card.

Standard SCANTRON 882E forms are used in all these tests.

No make-up exams will be given. With valid reason for missing an exam, the missed exam grade will be dropped.

You should have a graphing calculator (Texas Instruments, TI-84) but you are not allowed to use the graphing calculator in the tests. You may use a basic scientific calculator.

Grading:

Midterm Exams (2): 33% each (Note: After the lowest one is dropped, there are two midterm exams)

Final Exam: 34%

Grading Scale:

A: 90 – 100; B: 80 – 89; C: 70 –79; D: 60 – 69; F<59

Test Dates:

Midterm Exam #1: Ch. 5 and 6 (Sept. 16, Wed)

Midterm Exam #2: (To be determined)

Midterm Exam #3: (To be determined)

Final Exam: (the Saturday before regular final week))

Attendance and Drop Policy:

A student is expected to attend every class. A student will not be dropped automatically for failure to attend class. It is the student's responsibility to initiate a drop from a course before the last drop date.

Academic Dishonesty

Academic dishonesty is a completely unacceptable mode of conduct and will not be tolerated in any form. All persons involved in academic dishonesty will be disciplined in accordance with University regulations and procedures(Regents’ Rules and Regulations, Part One, Chapter VI, Section 3, Subsection 3.2, Subdivision 3.22)
