GIFT AID

Tax effective giving to your voluntary school

What is Gift Aid?

It is the Government’s way of encouraging us to give to charity in a way that allows the school to recover the tax we have already paid, by completing a simple declaration.

What is a Gift Aid declaration?

It is a form that will enable the school to recover tax on all donations that you make – through a planned giving scheme, sundry donation, or one off, as long as the payment is traceable.

Who should fill in a Gift Aid declaration?

Any parent, governor, friend of the school or member of staff, and anyone else, who pays income tax or capital gains tax, is UK resident, and would like to enable the school to benefit from the extra income.

How will the school gain?

The state will refund to the school the basic rate of tax on the money you give. Currently the state refunds 25p for every £1 that you give.

Is it honest?

Unequivocally yes. It is the Government’s wish to support charities in this way, including voluntary schools. The aim is to increase charitable giving by £1 billion within three years.

Can I give through Gift Aid if I only pay lower rate tax of 10p in £?

Yes, provided the amount of tax to be recovered by the school does not exceed the amount of tax you have paid.

How do I pay?

Complete the form overleaf and return it to Reception together with your payment. The payment may be made in any way that can be traced, such as cash or a cheque. Payment must be made either annually or termly.

How long is my Gift Aid declaration valid for?

Your completed form will be valid for the duration of your child’s time at the school. You may, of course, withdraw it at any time should you wish.

What if I do not want to or am unable to Gift Aid?

Then you may make voluntary donations to the school either termly or annually or, should you prefer, as and when activities/events occur. Should any parent find any difficulty in making such a contribution, please contact the school so that alternative arrangements may be discussed to avoid any embarrassment.
