Open Day – This has been planned and organised by apprentices with support from WBL team. Please share with any partners, friends, parents or young people
We are holding an open day on the 12th March. This will be open to members of the public, schools, employers and any other interested parties, as well as members of staff at City Hall.
Two of the large committee rooms will host the event. There will be displays outlining information about what we offer and general information about how apprenticeships work and why they are beneficial. To support this, there will be regular live presentations delivered by the apprentices’. Throughout the day the group will also be on hand to welcome and speak to any visitors that arrive. They will be given support on how to present and speak to visitors (giving extra skill development).
The MP and the mayor are attending.
Apprentices will also be blogging and other activities at the Job Centre in parallel and inviting job centre applicants to come to the open day
Cake Sale –
During the open day there will be a tea, coffee and cake sale. This will be set to raise donations to go towards the charity chosen by the Chief Executive- Macmillan (Andrew is touched by this gesture). A small percentage raised will also go towards the printing and use of a group photo. Visitors and internal staff will be able to access this sale. Cakes and donations will be gathered by the ‘cake sale’ team.
Please provide cakes if possible to support this event and fundraising
20th Anniversary build up Photo –
To mark the 20th year of the apprentice scheme at COCL, we are arranging for a group photo of those on programme at present. Those that are not able to attend the date chosen will be encouraged to send a separate photo of themselves in their workplace to be used in promotional materials. The group photo will then be printed in a professional format and be displayed within City Hall.
20th anniversary Timeline –
One of the sub groups will be putting together a timeline. The time line will span the 20 years of the scheme. It will highlight the key milestones in those years, as well as provide ‘profiles’ of 2 apprentices that started on a programme each of the 20 years. This will include details of where those apprentices’ are now and what they have achieved along with their thoughts on apprenticeships. We aim to make this as interactive as possible. It will also be displayed during the opening day.
Information desk –
During the whole week, there will be information available to members of the public that come to City Hall. There will be an information desk facilitated by an apprentice to the left of main reception. The group will be on rota to be with the desk. Relevant materials will be on offer and each members will be given support on how to speak to anyone who may show interest.
Overall benefits and aims –
A large part of this project is based on allowing each apprentice to take part in the organisation and ownership of the project. Not only are they learning to work together, learn new skills and run a real project, they are getting to know each other, develop soft skills and also gain valuable evidence for their NVQ and functional skills in English, Maths and ICT. Personal Learning and Thinking Skills will also be exercised and used all the way through. All members have been encouraged to put in as much effort as possible as they will be able to use these experiences in their near future, when applying for jobs and also when increasing their own job role responsibilities.
We aim to highlight to as many people as possible that we are a substantial provider of apprenticeships in Lincoln and the surrounding areas; winning awards throughout this time. Higher apprenticeships will not be left out either, we would like to showcase the benefit of learning through your 20’s, 30’s and higher.
