Dear Colleague

INVITATION TO APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP OF SCOTTISH POLICE RECREATION ASSOCIATION

AND JOIN THE SPRA PRIVATE LOTTERY

It gives me much pleasure in extending to you a sincere and warm welcome as a member of the Police Service of Scotland and to personally invite you to make application for membership of the Scottish Police Recreation Association.

The Police Service has many fine traditions and an outstanding reputation which extends beyond the efficient and professional approach to police duties into the area of sport and recreational pursuits as organised under the auspices of the Service’s Recreation Association.

The cost of membership is deducted directly from your salaryat the standard national rate of £7.50 per month (£6.92 for 4 weekly pay). Membership permits the full use of all the Association’s facilities throughout thearea, the right to participate in the organised activities of the 41 “recognised Sections” (catering for a total of 39 sports/pastimes),access to keep fit equipment throughout the area and access to its Registered Social Club.

The Association runs a very successful Private Lottery, which helps to supplement its funds. The lottery, which is drawn each week, pays out 50% of its income in prizes with the residue less expenses being utilised to augment the Association’s annual expenditure.

Currently 40 prizesare paid out every week from £50- £500. One special monthly prize of £1,000is drawn on the last Thursday of each month. In addition we have seasonal giveaways every 3 months including a NEWCAR and other popular gadgets (eg iPads, smartphones etc). If there is residue arising from the 50% payout rule this is paid out at a special draw held to coincide with Christmas. Importantly, it must be remembered that at the end of the day everyone wins since the income retained by the Association from the Lottery is used to provide and maintain a variety of recreation and leisure facilities throughout the Force area for the benefit of members.

The Lottery is open to SPRA Members only and is limited to either 5 (£1/week) or 10 chances (£2/week) and is deducted direct from your salary. If you wish to join the lottery please indicate on the lottery section of the application form whether you would want 5 or 10 chances and return it the SPRA office at the above address. List of winners will be published on the SPRA website. Winners will be notified via email and/or mail and cheques will be sent via internal mail. Please ensure all contact details are kept up to date.

I look forward to receiving your Membership Application to join the Scottish Police Recreation Associationand possibly the opportunityof meeting you in person in order to provide more detailed information of the benefits to be gained as a Member.

Yours sincerely

Calum Murray
