Next month, a Nominating Committee will be elected; Cindy Bainbridge will chair as part of her secretary duties. A representative from each of our three communities is needed to serve, plus one more PTA member. Please consider serving in this capacity.

Treasurer’s Report as of 1/3/12: Becky Conroy sent a detailed Treasurer’s Report. All council dues have been received, but Big Creek still needs to submit a budget and audit report.

President Elect’s Report –Jeff reported that Founder’s Day will be February 26th from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Berea High School Cafeteria. He asked units to submit their nominations for Outstanding Educator and Helping Hands awards by February 1st. Each unit will be asked to contribute $25.00 toward Founder’s Day expenses, due February 7th. Last call for Reflections entries. Grindstone and BereaHigh School have submitted artwork.

1st Vice President – Lessie Kilgore sent a report that scholarship applications will be delivered to Midpark and BereaHigh Schools at the end of this week. Completed applications will be due March 23rd and units will read them during April. Scholarships will be awarded in May.

2nd Vice President – Nancy Klier sent her thanks to everyone who attended, contributed, or assisted with the Holiday Luncheon. Profit was around $1,300.00, all of which goes toward scholarships for deserving high school graduates.

Community Relations Report – Nancy Braford invited all unit presidents and Council Executive Board members to help the district with a new levy campaign. After the failure of the November 2.5 mil levy, the district will be placing a 3.9 mil levy on the March 6th ballot. An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 10th at 7 p.m. at FordMiddle School. Three more meetings are planned and the dates will be announced. The passage of this levy is critical to the well-being of our kids and our communities. Please spread the word that voting for the levy will help kids and avoid more brutal cuts to staff. Furthermore, voting against it will not change the new facilities plan, but more likely speed up the process before adequate preparations can be implemented. Go to request an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots will be mailed starting January 31, 2012.

NEW BUSINESS:

Becky Conroy extended an invitation to everyone to attend the Relay for Life Kick-off informational meeting on Thursday, January 26th at 6 p.m. at the Brook ParkRecreationCenter. In “Unit Happenings,” Sharon Wolf asked all units to put the word out about Midpark’s Band Rock-In, a fundraiser for scholarships to be held on Saturday, March 3rd at Midpark. Cost is only $5.00 which includes admission and snacks.
