L. P. Savani Academy Day Boarding

Class: II Month: August

Dear Parents,

As education and competitions are very closely related, we strongly believe that competitions in education are for the development of educational skills. Young learners of grade 2 showed their immense potential in different competitions. They showed their feelings towards our motherland by participating in ‘International leader competition’ and by colouring in national and international flags. They felt special while participating in ‘Make and eat competition’.

In the month of August learners of grade 2 learnt about mapping a story. Students filled a story map. It helped them to understand that the beginning introduces the story, the middle builds on the problem and the end gives solution to the problem. Apart from that kids are able to identify the naming part and telling part of the sentence.

Rather than simply memorising the names and features of solid shapes, students experienced the shapes by actually holding them. Finally, based on their knowledge of features of solid shapes, students built solid shapes by using matchsticks and dough. Little mathematicians learnt that multiplying ‘x’ means adding the same number of things repeatedly. Students gained the deep understanding by counting things in groups to solve multiplication problems.

‘Food is one of the basic needs of life.’ Students of grade 2 learnt about the healthy eating choices. They are clear that eating a variety of food is very important. They can categorize the foods into families of vegetables, cereals, fruits, pulses, nuts, spices and milk products. Kids learnt about the internal body organs by feeling their own bodies. They are able to identify brain, stomach, lungs, heart and kidneys in a diagram of internal organs. They were excited to know the importance of play and doing small chores like keeping shoes and books on proper place.

Music and dance are the ways to express our happiness. In dance students are learning ‘hula hoop’. Their small fingers started dancing on the keys of harmonium.

Sports activities, whether they are outdoor activities or indoor activities they finally benefit our bodies. This month students got a chance to meet with ‘Mr Paul’ an international P.E. They learnt variety of group games.

Students are curious about the new activities and competitions coming in the month of September. We will update you about the class activities in next month.
