1.  Students are expected to attend all clinicals and arrive on time. There are no excused absences. If an absence occurs, the student must notify the designated personnel (instructor and/or clinical facility) prior to the beginning of clinical. Absences will be handled according to the ADN Attendance Policy. Tardies will be handled with counseling records and contracts.

2.  No smoking is permitted during clinical hours. The student’s uniform, breath and clinical papers must be smoke free. Perfume is not permitted.

3.  Breaks are limited to 15 minutes (to be further discussed with instructor). Students may not leave the clinical facility for personal business during their shift. Students may not leave the clinical facility for lunch during their shift unless approved by the instructor at the beginning of the semester. Students may not skip lunch to go home early.

4.  Students are expected to report off to the appropriate personnel prior to taking a break. Texting is not sufficient for a report.

5.  Cell phones must be silenced during clinical time, including post-conference. Students may not have personal conversations on cell phones or with ear buds in clinical except during approved breaks (including community clinicals). Students may not take any photos during clinical with the exception of classmates during post-conference only. No lap-tops may be brought to post-conference, except with permission of the instructor.

6.  A student is expected to perform only those procedures that he/she has checked off on in the skills laboratory.

7.  Students are not permitted to take either a health care provider’s telephone or verbal order. The student will inform the health care provider of that fact and locate a qualified person to accept the order.

8.  Students are not permitted to draw blood for type and cross match. If permitted by the facility, they may draw blood for other blood tests.

9.  Students are not permitted to give information about the patient's condition over the telephone.

Canvas is not considered in the public domain but no personal patient information should be placed on Canvas. Students may not copy any part of a patient’s chart, even if the patient’s identifier is left off.

11.  Students must have a current negative TB test, immunizations, liability insurance, and a current and valid health care provider CPR card at all times during a clinical rotation. It is the student's responsibility to obtain the appropriate healthcare provider CPR course meeting American Heart Association guidelines. BLS cards are considered valid for two years except for those from a RQI program. Students who are participating in a RQI BLS program should submit documentation that certification is valid within the last 90 days. Students with a positive TB test must have a current negative chest x-ray report on file before clinical and negative risk assessment for the second year. All required documentation must be uploaded as instructed to the Castle Branch account.
