Dear Chancellor Khosla:

We wish to provide support to the UCSan Diego. We hereby irrevocably agree contribute [insert amount] to the UC San Diego Foundation to establish an endowment fund ("Fund") [or multiple funds as desired]. This fund is to provide support for the benefit of [insert designated area of interest] at UC San Diego and will be named [insert desired fund name]. The fund shall be administered by the [insert department to oversee uses of the fund].

We understand that the Endowment Spending Policy, set from time-to-time by the UC San Diego Foundation's Board of Trustees, will determine the payout made available for the designated purpose each year. The total return earned by the Fund in excess of the payout, if any, will be retained in the principal of the Fund to protect the Fund from the effects of inflation and to allow for growth. Furthermore, we authorize the addition of payout back to the Fund's principalwhen it is not needed for the aforementioned purpose. We authorize the UC San Diego Foundation, pursuant to its Endowment Investment Policies and Guidelines and the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Fund Act (or any subsequent governing laws or regulations), to combine our gifts with other endowment funds for investment purposes and to deduct any annual costs of administration from the Fund's total return. We also approve and encourage additions, by others, to the Fund and request that these additions be added to the principal of the Fund.

In consideration of our gift, the Chancellor of the University of California, San Diego will seek approval from the campus naming committee to name the [location/ building, center, program] the [insert name] for [the useful life of the facility or for as long as the program or center is in operation]. Should approval be required by the UC President, the campus will proceed to obtain such approval.

The endowment will exist in perpetuity. Should the purpose of the fund become impractical or impossible to carry out in the far future, we will first be contacted to discuss alternative purposes. In the event we can no longer be contacted, the Chancellor of the University of California, San Diego will redesignate the purpose of the payout from the Fund. If necessary, the Chancellor will seek approval from the President for this redesignation. In any event, if such circumstances arise, the Chancellor will align any redesignated purpose as closely as possible to the designated purpose that we have described in this letter.
