Holiday Sharing Program

·  Adopt a Family for the holidays. The Holiday Sharing Program provides gifts for those with disabilities, the elderly and low-income families. A troop may adopt a family or individuals may adopt a family.

·  Every winter holiday season the Department of Community & Human Services seeks volunteers to help sort and deliver gifts at the Human Services Center.

Wright To Read

Wright to Read is an educational program which promotes literacy through the tutoring and mentoring of elementary school students and outreach to the Alexandria community.

·  Volunteer to be an After-School Reading Tutor.

·  Do a book drive so that the children they serve can take books home.

ALIVE! (Alexandrians InVolved Ecumenically!)

ALIVE! Works to help those in need with shelter, low-cost early childhood education and childcare, financial help for rent, utilities, medical care and other critical needs such as emergency food and more.

ALIVE has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.

Carpenter’s Shelter

The Carpenter’s Shelter provides shelter, guidance, education and advocacy for homeless individuals and families who see sustainable independence and stability.

The Carpenter’s Shelter has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. Some opportunities are limited by age restrictions.

Taylor Run Citizen’s Association (TRCA)

Angel Park and/or Chinquapin Park Clean Up

Weekly, between April 1 to November 30th, TRCA needs help to clean up Angel Park and Chinquapin Park after busy weekends of use. TRCA is looking for help in this effort to make Alexandria’s parks nice.

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria

The League is pleased to offer volunteer opportunities to local children and teenagers through the Youth Volunteer Program! During the academic year, animal lovers in 3rd through 12th grades are encouraged to come to the shelter and help the companion animals in their care. Each volunteer activity focuses on a different type of companion animal and helps us provide them with additional environmental enrichment, making the animals’ stay more enjoyable.
