  1. Patrol Leaders:

Patrol leaders should be instrumental in helping to run a program that the Scouts will enjoy. Regular meetings with them will help in planning programs that youth will want to attend. Ask the Patrol Leaders what kinds of camp they enjoy the most, ask them if they want to be meeting with other Scouts to enjoy activities such as curling or skating. Ask them what kind of community involvement they are interested in. In other words, ASK, ASK and ASK again.

  • Youth Appointed:
  • Do you use patrol boxes:

I have found that use of patrol boxes gives the youth a sense of accomplishment and that they are more responsible for what happens:

  • Regular duties assigned:

They should be reporting back the answers from the ASK again above. It should move beyond the regular such as games, collecting dues, etc. Maybe leaders could be handing out questions at the beginning of each meeting for Patrols to talk about certain aspects of Scouting within their patrols.

  • Dates of meetings:
  1. Assistant Patrol Leaders:

  1. Court of Honour:

This is by far one of the hardest things to get started owing to our busy schedules. Maybe the first meeting could be run as a whole Scout Troop by one of the leaders so that everybody gets the idea. In order for Venturers to run really great, these meetings are very important. Ask the youth what times/days work best for them. Maybe before meetings, maybe after meetings, maybe during a game, maybe for pizza. It is important that an agenda be set so everyone will know what is being discussed.

Planning and ideas, special trips, meeting with other Scout Troops, these are all ideas that should come from the youth and then they should be put into action by the youth.
