Basketball Physical Education Class Modified Rules
All games will be half court, 2vs2, 3vs3 or 4vs4
Defense will be person to person
Players may not make contact with another player; any contact is a PERSONAL FOUL. This would turn over possession of the ball to the opposing team.
If a foul occurs while a player is “shooting” they would be awarded a foul shot. 1 shot if they had scored the basket, 2 shots if the basket was missed.
Defensive players should always be arms length distance from offensive player
Defensive players should try to keep their back to the basket they are defending and stay between the basket and the player they are defending
All players should always be able to see the basketball
Defensive players are the team without possession of the basketball
Offensive players are the team in possession of the basketball
An offensive player has 3 options when in possession of the basketball: dribble, pass, or shoot the ball.
If an offensive player is not in direct possession of the ball, they should move around the court in an attempt to be in an “open” position to receive a pass from a teammate with the ball
Offensive players can move the ball around the court by dribbling or passing the ball
In class we use bounce passes and chest passes
A player in possession of the ball can only move when the are dribbling the ball
Once a player stops or picks up their dribble they may not start to dribble again.
The types of shots we use in class are, layups and jump shots, we may also use a foul shot if necessary.
If a team shoots and misses a shot a team member can rebound and shoot again. If a defensive player rebounds a missed shot they must dribble or pass the ball to the “back” of the playing area of their court to begin their “offense”. This simulates going to “THEIR” basket, which would be at the opposite end of the court if playing “full” court.
If a team scores a basket, in this class they would remain on the court and a new team would come on to challenge them. New team on gains first possession of the ball at the “back” of the court
