Rules for Indoor R/C Scale Series 2008

Introduction

There are three separate classes:

Scale ARF

Simple Scale

Full Scale

The same flight rules apply to all classes – only the static rules differ.

Team entries are permitted subject to both builder and pilot being present.

Multiple entries in each class are permitted. (This is to encourage maximum entries in each class. As numbers grow in future years it may become necessary to require single entries.)

Rules for ARF Class

1.  Model is a recognised ARF. Models that have been built up, but not by the entrant, are also eligible.

2.  Model is a recognisable scale model of a full size aircraft.

3.  All points are awarded for flight performance – there is no static judging. See Flight Rules below.

Rules for Simple Scale Class

1.  The builder-of-the-model rule applies, but team entries are allowed.

2.  30% of the available points are for scale appearance and 70% for flight performance.

3.  Scale appearance is judged on the basis of at least two photographs provided by the entrant. Provision of a three-view drawing is optional.

4.  The width of the fuselage, single-surface covering, and exposed motor and radio equipment are all ignored when scale appearance is judged, thus permitting entry of profile fuselage (‘no-cal’) models on an equal basis with models having full or partial cross-sections of fuselages and flying surfaces.

5.  Model surface texture and colour are ignored when scale appearance is judged, but it is expected that models will have a colour scheme approximately representative of the type.

6.  Scale Appearance Points are awarded by the judge first placing the models in rank order, then awarding the first-ranked model 100 points, and proceeding to award each other model the points that it merits in the range 0 – 100, relative to the first-ranked model, on the basis of the photographs provided. The judge views each model from a distance not less than 1m.

7.  Flight Points are awarded according to the Flight Rules (see below).

8.  Total Points are calculated as Flight Points multiplied by 0.7 plus Scale Appearance Points multiplied by 0.3.

Rules for Full Scale Class

1.  The builder-of-the-model rule applies, but team entries are allowed.

2.  Scale and Craftsmanship is judged on the basis of information provided by the entrant including: a reputable three view drawing; at least two photographs of the type, including at least one of the subject aircraft; proof of colour through a colour photograph, or a colour drawing, or a written description. Markings must be evident in the documentation. The judge views each model from a distance not less than 1m.

3.  Scale and Craftsmanship Points are awarded in the following categories and ranges, yielding a maximum of 100 points:

Category Points Range

Scale accuracy

Side view 0 - 20

Front view 0 - 20

Plan view 0 - 20

Colour and markings 0 - 10

Realism of surface texture 0 - 10

Scale detail 0 - 10

Craftsmanship 0 - 10

4.  Flight Points are awarded according to the Flight Rules (see below).

5.  Total Points are calculated as Flight Points multiplied by 0.5 plus Scale and Craftsmanship Points multiplied by 0.5.

Flight Rules for all Classes

1.  Flight Points are awarded for the following sequence of manoeuvres, yielding a maximum of 100 points for each flight.

Manoeuvre Points Range

Takeoff from floor 0 - 10

Straight fly-by 0 - 10

Circle 0 - 10

Figure 8 0 - 10

Two optional announced manoeuvres 0 - 10 each

Landing on floor 0 - 10

Overall realism of whole flight 0 - 30

2.  Three flights are attempted, in rounds. A flight occurs when the model rises from the floor or is hand launched.

3.  Flight Points are calculated as the average of the points of the two best flights.
