Post: Technical Officer – National Maternal, Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR Coordinator)

Responsible to:Senior Technical Officer

Location: Nairobi but with travel within Kenya

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: As part of the LSTM Kenya team,the incumbent is required to carry out the following duties:

  1. Support the implementation of the Making It Happen (MIH) programme workplan in Kenya, with specific responsibility for identifiedregions in Kenya (to be determined).
  2. Prepare and implement monthly, quarterly and annual work plans for the team, share and implement these in a timely fashion.
  3. Provide technical support to the delivery of training in EOC&NC, Quality Improvement trainings and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E)-Making it Happen with data workshops.
  4. Take the lead in planning, coordination and execution of M&E activities such as baseline surveys, monthly and quarterly follow up, QI and maternal and perinatal death surveillance and review (MPDSR) in the identified regions.
  5. Provide technical support in data management; data collection, data entry, data cleaning, processing and analysis.
  6. Provide technical support in planning and execution of research activities within the identifiedregions.
  7. Provide technical support to the MIH programme in updating and adapting relevant guidelines, materials and tools; strengthening with MOH & other relevant organizations.
  8. Support the formation and strengthening of partnerships with MOH and other relevant agencies, including participation in joint actions such as technical working groups and workshops to facilitate capacity-building and programme implementation.
  9. Facilitate communications and information dissemination of best practices to relevant stakeholders.
  10. Compile reports as per programme schedule and participate in documentation of activities within a stipulated deadline.
  11. Prepare regular and timely reports and updates for LSTM on MIH programme and latest developments in country related to Maternal & Newborn Health.
  12. Perform other relevant duties as required.

Clinical field experience in maternal and newborn health in a developing country undertaking duties such as supervision of labour ward staff and organization of maternity services
Experience of working to targets and deadlines
Experience working with MoH/ or other key recognized organizations or NGOs
Understanding of health systems at policy level
Experience in managing data in a health related institution and knowledge on statistical software packages. / E
