Job Description
Post:Project Manager, PRISM Project
Reporting to:Head of Programme - Access to Infrastructure Services
Primary Responsibilities:
Manage theproject team ensuring specific project strategies and activities are achievedas stated in the project document;
- Develop project strategies, interventions, activities and policies related to:
- Strengthening capacities of different stakeholders for effective social recognition and piloting innovative social protection schemes;
- Enhancing technical and entrepreneurial skills of the informal sector workers and vulnerable groups in solid waste management;
- Strengthening solid waste market system to become more inclusive and pro-poor;
- Developing and disseminating key learning documents and collaborate amongst SWM informal sector workers and organisations for inclusive social protection to influence policy makers and other stakeholders;
Key responsibilities include reporting, monitoring, documentation and coordination in all respects of the project activities.
- Planning, Implementing, Monitoring and Reporting of the Project Activities
The Project Manager is responsible to lead the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting in coordination and collaboration with the project team, support units of Practical Action, partner, associates and stakeholders. Some of the activities are listed below but not limited to:
Prepare annual, quarterly and monthly plans for effective execution of the project activities in coordination with the project team, partner, associates and relevant stakeholders;
Facilitate and ensure key studies and researches such as baseline surveys, Knowledge Attitude and Practices (KAP), Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) are developed as planned and as per the requirement;
Design and develop capacity building activities for the project team, partner, associates and relevant stakeholders to engage effectively with target groups for piloting innovative social protection schemes and social recognition initiatives;
Coordinate and support key stakeholders in developing the Management Information System (MIS) of solid waste;
Liaise and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders in developing strategies for policy influencing and changes;
Coordinate with relevant team members and key stakeholders in designing and implementing market development strategies and activities working “across the value chain”.
Prepare and submit technical (field visit, monthly, quarterly and annually)and financial reports to Head of Programme to fulfil the Practical Action's internal and donor compliances;
Develop education, awareness and extension materials such as project briefs, case studies, lesson learning, policy briefing papers etc. for sharing the experiences.
- Mobilisation and Management of the Resources
Appraise human, financial and material resources of the project and assess the resource needs for the project;
Coordinate with the concerned units of Practical Action to set performance goals for the project team, monitor results and develop capacities as needed;
Manage and mobilise internal and externally available resources effectively within the project resources for achieving optimum results desired;
Coordinate with the Head of Programme and relevant units of Practical Action to design and develop fund raising activities in support of the project.
- Project coordination and communication
Coordinate with relevant stakeholders for effective delivery of project activities along with representing the interest of the organization;
Communicate project related information regularly to Head of Programme, Project Staff, Practical Action Nepal Office and external stakeholders as and when required;
Maintain good relations with project beneficiaries, partner organization, associates, local governments and relevant stakeholders;
Assist the project and AIM team in developing and strengthening networks of peers and professional contacts, within and outside the organisation;
Organise meetings, workshops and other information dissemination events with different stakeholders;
Represent the project and Practical Action Nepal at different levels of meetings, workshops, fora as and when necessary;
- Monitoring and Management Support topartner and associates
Extend management support to mobilise the administrative, finance and human resources of the project implementing partner, associates and respective municipalities;
Adhere to and observe the agreements with partner organisation and Practical Action’s internal procedures in all financial, human and administrative management;
Plan and monitor the project activities pertaining to financial and administrative requirements and systems of partner and associates;
Monitor the quality of reports (technical and financial) of partner and associates and provide assistance where necessary;
Participate in the appraisal of partner staff and monitor their performance;
- Other responsibilities as directed by Head of Programme - Access to Infrastructure Services Programme
Minimum Qualification and Requirements
Candidates should have:
- Masters Degree inenvironmental science/engineering,development studies, management, social science or any other relevant area;
- At least three years of work experience in solid waste management and community development pertaining to SWM. Preference will be given to candidate with management experience in social protection schemes for informal workers;
- High level of skills in project planning and management, demonstrated skills in prioritising task and meeting deadlines;
- Strong communication, analytical and report writing skills with fluency in spoken and written English and Nepali;
- Knowledge and skills in basic computing, demonstrated inter-personal skills in working with a multi-disciplinary team;
- Good knowledge and experience of participatory approaches in project development and implementation;
Contract period:36 months
