Chilton Health Centre

The PPG has supported the redevelopment of the new Health Centre over the last 2 to 3 years.

In November 2015 the practice moved into its new site at Norman Terrace. The practice has now extended its services to local patients by offering appointments at Chilton Health Centre on Tuesday afternoons.

The new building has a suite of modern consulting rooms, as well as up to date treatment and minor operations rooms. The local dental practice is now on site and a pharmacy will open shortly.

The group considers the national patient survey and the Friends and Family Test (FFT) on a regular basis.

NATIONAL PATIENT SURVEY

The PPG is also delighted to announce that the practice was ranked 726 out of 7708 practices and is therefore in the top 10% of practices nationally for patient satisfaction.

FRIENDS & FAMILY TEST

The Patient Participation Group is delighted to report that the Friends & Family Test (FFT) has been predominantly positive about the practice with the following results for 2015/2016 (12 months data March 2015 to February 2016):-

How likely are you to recommend our GP practice to friends and family if they need similar care or treatment?

Extremely unlikely 4

Don’t Know 0

There have been 105 written comments, which are overwhelmingly positive, the following are a selection:-

·  Professional and friendly treatment

·  Good service

·  Very supportive staff and very friendly in all situations

·  I normally attend Chilton surgery for my appointments and find the staff very helpful

·  Have always been treated with respect

·  I have always had an appointment when needed. You go out of your way to so that and I am grateful. I know people can get angry but we all have to be patient, there are only X number of appointments each day available. Not many surgeries have appointments if you ring first thing in the morning. This has been a big plus.

·  Very friendly and caring

·  Able to get an appointment daily

·  Very caring GP and pleasant people in the surgery

·  Receptionists are now quite appropriate which was not always so

·  Warm friendly responses from all staff. It seems like ‘house style’. There is a purposefully busy atmosphere without panic. It’s a place where I feel confident of a respectful and professional service.

·  Hard to get an appointment

PRIORITY AREAS FOR 2015-2016

The PPG agrees three priority areas each year

During 2015/2016 the agreed priorities were:-

PRIORITY 1

To increase the uptake of Flu Pneumococcal and Shingles vaccination rates from the 2015 figures to include contacting patients by text, phone call or letter.

Flu Vaccine during 2015/2016

The end of the Flu Season is officially 31st March 2016; however as a Practice we try to finish administering Flu vaccines by Christmas, with dedicated clinics in October and November.

On 23rd February 2016, the following flu vaccinations had been given.

Patients aged 65 and over 3052

Aged 65 and over given flu 2026 66%

In 2014/2015 the uptake figure was 64.9%

The practice has therefore achieved the priority of increasing flu vaccination in the over 65s.

Patients aged 5 to 64 in the ‘at risk group’ i.e. diabetes, COPD, Heart Disease, Stroke/TIA 2218

Aged 5 to 64 in an “at risk” group and given flu vaccination 880 39.6%

In 2014/2015 the uptake was 37.7%

The practice has therefore achieved the priority of increasing flu vaccination in the under 65s in an ‘at risk group’.

To increase the uptake of Pneumococcal Vaccination during 2015/2016

Patients aged over 65 3052

Patients given Pneumovacc 2267 74%

In 2014/2015 the uptake level was 71.7%

The practice has therefore achieved the priority of increasing the pneumococcal vaccination

Shingles Vaccination

Age ranges for Shingles Vaccines - 2015/16:

Patients with a DOB between 2.9.1944 - 1.9.1945 (70 year olds)

Patients with a DOB between 2.9.1936 - 1.9.1937 (78 year olds)

Patients with a DOB between 2.9.1935 - 1.9.1936 (79 year olds)

Number of patients in eligible age groups 705

Number of shingles vaccinations given 612 86%

The shingles vaccination programme runs from September to August each year and the final uptake will be reported on at the end of August 2016

Continuing to increase the uptake of Flu, Pneumococcal and Shingles vaccination will continue as a priority for 2016/2017

PRIORITY 2

Ferryhill Reception Redesign

Following the completion of the new Health Centre at Chilton, the PPG were keen to support the re-design of the reception area at Ferryhill surgery. This priority is still on-going and will continue to be a priority in 2016/2017

PRIORITY 3

Teenage Consultation

In previous years the practice has undertaken a consultation exercise with teenagers at the Ferryhill Business & Enterprise College and the local e-cafe. Unfortunately, there is no longer any funding for the youth workers so it has not been possible to do this in 2015/2016.
