A: 90 - 100%

B: 80 - 89%

C: 70 - 79%

D: 60 – 69%

Grades will be based on the following four components and will have the indicated weights:

Formative Assignments

Assignments include any bookwork, project or activities. Assignments with be given on a weekly basis and will always be due on Monday. No late work will be accepted.

Summative Quizzes

Quizzes will be given as we complete sections from the text to check for student understanding. Often times they will be “pop” quizzes and have no warning.

Summative Tests and Projects

Tests will be given about twice per month, at the end of chapters. The course will also include semester exams. Semester exams will be cumulative and will have roughly twice the weight as regular tests. Tests will be closed book. Notes may not be used on tests, but the IB Math Studies Formula Sheet may be used on all tests.

IB Project and Examination

As a part of this class you will complete a project using mathematics on a topic of your choosing. If you choose to attempt to earn IB credit for this class the project will be submitted as you Internal Assessment to IB. You will also have to take two written external examination.

Discipline Plan:

Expectations for Mr. Kroon

  • Be prepared to teach and answer questions each period, every day.
  • Return graded assignments and tests in a timely fashion.
  • Maximize the time allowed for the completion of work in class.
  • Be receptive to student input.
  • Be available before school and at lunch to answer questions.

Expectations for Students

  • Be seated and prepared when bell rings.
  • Be respectful, quiet, and attentive when the instructor is in front of the class.
  • Treat classmates with respect and kindness.
  • Keep electronics put away.
  • Use given work time for doing math.
  • Stay seated and working until the bell rings

Consequences

  • Verbal warning.
  • Lunch or after school detention.
  • Parental contact.
  • Administrative referral.

*Other offenses will be subject to the consequences outlined in the Student Handbook.

Pass Policy:

There is an orange pass at the front of the class that students may use. It will not be given during lecture time. Only one person may receive a pass at a time. Pass usage is meant to be brief. It is not to be used for going to the vending machines or for wandering the halls. Pass privileges will be lost for excessive pass use or for long absences from the classroom.

Grade Checks:

In the interest of conserving resources, I will not post hard copies of grades. I will however keep grades updated on the computer. Students and parents wishing to monitor progress can log onto iParent at any time. Please feel free to email me with any questions regarding iParent grades.

Tardy Policy:

The door to the room will be closed when the bell rings. Students arriving tardy to class will need to get a pass from the office before being allowed in the class. Discipline will be dealt with by the office.
