Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed term position as an Industry Liaison Specialist with the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC) at the National University of Ireland, Galway. The position is available from 1st December 2014 until contract end date of 31st December 2015.

Job Description: This position will play a major role in developing ICHEC’s programme of industry R&D engagement with the MNC sector. This programme, started in 2010, saw ICHEC engage successfully with both MNCs and SMEs for the delivery of pre-competitive research collaborations and consultancy services. ICHEC’s engagement is mostly based around the application of novel computing technologies to the business, enterprise world and semi-state sector. ICHEC’s strength relies on a broad combination of expertise including:

·  advanced numerical and modelling techniques;

·  software development (with PRINCE2 and Agile/PMP project management);

·  advanced skills in leading edge technologies (e.g. high-performance computing and many-core architectures);

·  data management and analytics;

·  distributed computing, workflow optimisation and stream processing; and

·  topical expertise (e.g., bioinformatics, oil & gas, etc.)

The role of the Industry Liaison Specialist will be to apply this unique combination of skills and knowledge to engage with MNCs for either service provision or R&D partnerships. The outcome will be improved competitiveness of client/partner companies, thus contributing to economic development. He/she will need to identify opportunities for engagement, approach prospective partners or clients and negotiate with them the terms of our engagement. ICHEC have traditionally assisted Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland client companies whenever invited to do so. The target is to generate €250k of revenues through new MNC contracts in calendar year 2015. The Industry Liaison Specialist will report directly to the ICHEC Director.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have a track record in an R&D environment and a strong record in creative problem solving (for possible application of novel technologies to both industry and the semi-state sector) is essential. Applicants must have a degree and a post graduate degree in a relevant area such as science & engineering, mathematics or computer sciences, or equivalent professional experience. The ideal candidate would have prior experience in business development or technology transfer in a technological area. Candidates should have excellent communication and organizational skills; be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products, and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills. Experience of interacting with Enterprise Ireland, and IDA Ireland would be an advantage; a good knowledge of their policy in relevant areas is equally desirable.

Salary range: €60,000 - €70,000 per annum

Start date: Position is available from December 2014.
