CONTRACT: FULL-TIME - NEGOTIABLE

REPORTS TO: CEO

POSITION CONTEXT

Topology are established leaders in musical creativity in Australia, acclaimed internationally. They celebrated their 20th birthday in 2017 with a season at New York's Lincoln Centre and a new retrospective album release, amongst many other activities. The quintet are prolific creators of new original work, expert collaborators across genres and art forms and award-winning music educators. Nominated for a 2014 ARIA Award for best classical album (Share House), Topology experiments with surprising combinations of music genres, theatrical staging and cross art form collaborations to create exciting, thought-provoking music experiences for audiences of all ages, backgrounds and tastes.

Since 1997 Topology has released 14 albums, produced hundreds of evening-length works, presented an annual award-winning concert series, and toured extensively nationally and internationally. Topology collaborates with luminaries in theatre (Geoffrey Rush, Neil Armfield), popular divas (Kate Miller-Heidke, Katie Noonan),classical music (the Brodsky Quartet), comedy (the Kransky Sisters, Gerry Connolly),contemporary art music (Terry Riley, Speak Percussion), dance (Expressions Dance Company, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre, Qld Ballet), theatre (Qld Theatre Company, Abhinaya Theatre Company) puppetry (Dead Puppet Society), contemporary jazz (Trichotomy, Loops), Asian music (Dheeraj Shrestha, Ubiet) and indigenous Australian music (William Barton).
Topology has an energetic education program called Top Up, which has been working closely with schools and communities to compose, mentor and perform with young people, emerging artists and the greater community since 1998. The recent State Award Winner for Excellence in Music Education at the APRA AMCOS Art Music Awards 2015, Top Up has grown exponentially over the years reaching thousands of participants around regional Australia every year.

PURPOSE

The Executive Producer will manage and negotiate the core business of Topology with a focus on collaborations, co-productions and international touring.This position requires a flexible combination of the following roles:

  1. A creative producer;
  2. An executive producer; and
  3. An administrative manager.

Reporting Relationships

The Executive Producer reports to the CEO (creative director).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working closely with the Artistic and Creative Directors the Executive Producer will:

1)Expand and nurture the core business at local, national and international levels;

2)Manage and nurture relationships with key partners, stakeholders and co-producers;

3)Plan, produce and manage artistic activities, albums etc to the highest ethical and technical standards in collaboration with Topology crew, including:

a)attending and managing events including ticket and merchandise sales;

b)preparation and implementation of an annual tour program;

c)preparation of merchandise and albums, in addition to managing our back catalogue;

d)preparation, review and implementation of contracts with suppliers, venues, collaborators, etc.

4)Identify sources of funding opportunities and partnerships, prepare applications for grants and acquittals for Topology and also the adjunct educational program, Top Up;

5)Work with the publicist to communicate information for materials relevant to conducting marketing and publicity campaigns, including submitting and reporting on sales in revenue channels such as Spotify, ticket sales at events and impact of marketing campaigns.

6)Provide specialised research and knowledge on issues related to new music and develop policy and strategic papers as required.

7)Act as board secretary, including:

a)Convening board meeting, preparation of board papers and minutes; and

b)Preparation of budgets and reports for the board as part of the board documents and monitoring performance against budgets, grants and tour strategies.

SELECTION CRITERIA
  1. Experience in middle or senior management. Some tertiary qualification in Arts Management or similar an advantage.
  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to use Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  1. High level research skills
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of grant processes (with government and private foundations), including reporting procedures and requirements. Experience in fundraising and / or sponsorship an advantage.
  1. High level strategic and financial planning skills, including ability to use Microsoft Office programs including excel and MYOB.
  1. Ability to work independently and collegially within a team and to think with creative initiative
  1. Ability to work within constricted budgets and multiple deadlines
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of governance practices including:
  1. Board reporting;
  2. Contract management.
