Governance Structure
The main decision-making body of the School is thegrouping of senior managers – Heads of Departments andProfessional Services – brought together with the Directors of theprincipal activities: Research, Education and BusinessEngagement, co-ordinated by the Deputy Director of the Schooland the School Manager, under the chairing of the Dean of the School. This is a large group buts its inclusivity is necessary toprovide broad knowledge and direct links toall members of theSchool.
This body iscalled School Senior Management Group.It receivespapers on proposed developments to the School, discusses anddevelops budgets, strategies and policies, and takes responsibility,at a departmental level, for the School’s performance against itsKPIs. It has collective cabinet responsibility.
The decisions of the SSMG are relayed to the University,while in the opposite direction, the requirements of VCEG are fed into the School. These communications are theresponsibility of the Dean of the School. To support thisactivity, there is an Executive Board, consisting of theDean, Deputy Director, School Manager, Finance andResources Manager, Director of Education and Director of Research. The Executive Board is not expectedto change decisions of the SSMG; its role is to ensure thatthe relationship between the School and the University ismanaged well.
The School Board is the prime mechanism forensuring that everyone in the School has access to issues thatare being dealt with by SSMG and the Executive Board, complemented by occasional special meetings and a SchoolConference and departmental meetings.
The Board of Advisors provides the external‘sounding board’ for the senior management of the School.

The Board consists of invited members from a broad range ofbusiness fields, including alumni, international members, andother academics

To represent the interests and responsibilities of the School.To manage the relationship between the School and theUniversity.

Professors’ Meeting
To discuss all issues of strategic importance to the School andensure accountability of professors in the context of theirleadership role. Membership: All full professors in the School andassociate professors with senior leadership roles.
School Board
The major communication forum in which all matters ofsignificant or strategic importance to the School are discussed.
Connect the activities of the School to those of the University.
Members: all staff in the School; representatives of PGR, UG,PGT and MBA programmes.
Research Committee
To ensure the School meets its Research objectives.
As the School consists of several quite distinct disciplines, theresearch committee will enable its Chair, the Director ofResearch, to bring together specific perspectives of thedepartmental representatives (Departmental Directors ofResearch) formulating a School position. At SSMGdiscussions on research will reflect both the activities in theResearch Committee and the broader perspective of each head ofdepartment.

Education Committee
To ensure the School meets its Education objectives.
Reflecting the role of the Director of Education, this committeeis required to ensure both the alignment of educationprogrammes with KPIs and also the constant innovation requiredto maintain market relevance of the School’s portfolio (e.g.internationalisation of the curriculum and student experience,and introduction and exploitation of new technologies).

Student-Staff Liaison Committees
To enable students and staff jointly to participate in thecomposition, management and review of School provision with aview to improving the quality of teaching and learning.

Departmental and Team Meetings
Departmental and team meetings ensurerepresentation and consultation more widely, i.e. departmentalstaff meetings and meetings of the BSPS functions. As thesemeetings are convened by a member of the School SeniorManagement Group, they have a direct line into the strategicplanning of the School. The Dean of the School will beavailable to attend such meetings from time to time if this isrequested.
